RE: 10th Anniversary

To celebrate the glorious occasion necessitated by the yellow board shutting down thereby which Chuck 'Evil Eyes' Greebo begat this new and improved forum, what has been planned?

I propose commemorative hats or shirts. And cupcakes are nice.

I vote for nothing that makes more work for the site's organizers but do wish to congratulate them for a job well done. That is commendable perdurance in the 21st century.

I'm in for cookies and cupcakes, I'd pick up a shirt if they were made. A commemorative Slips with Flaps t-shirt run wouldn't be bad either even though that was RAP, a good few people here from then.

The administrators are doing a great job,I still vote for t shirts .

The back of the T-Shirts should have a list of the Top 10 (by participation) threads, in keeping with the 10th Anniversary theme and all...

dang, 10 posts and no one has suggested hookers and blow?

If we come up with a tshirt/hat design I'll spring for a free tshirt for one lucky winner.

IIRC, it was Michael Driggs (now CapeCodMichael) who worked in cooperation with the Grand Master, aka Greebo to design the POA logo.

A few years later there was the T-shirt episode/debacle. How did that go anyway?

Seeing how POA really doesn't have a PPC (Party Planning Committee), perhaps someone would take charge. Is this an 'open forum' or still under the control of an admin? In the latter I reckon PPR.

I would really like to see something come together in time for Feb 2015.

If the launch is a go I will put in for a couple caps in advance.

So, admin approval...design competition...providing art ready to Café Press or other. How does that sound?

A super POA Fly-In would be tops. (Not Iowa. <snicker>)

Personally, I'd like to hear more about this. Not sure if I wasn't paying attention, but in the past few years, this is the first I've heard of it.

Is there a thread with the backstory?

Like the ten top posters list, still voting for T shirts.

Hard to believe we've been here since the humble beginnings...wow, 10 years...

It would be great if the board waived the annual fee this year...

We do need to pay attention to this.

The original AOPA web board was becoming a cesspool of controversy and abuse, so AOPA decided to shut it down for an indeterminate period. As a result, a group of frequent-posters got together with the plan of creating a new, and better, Internet message board for general aviation pilots-Pilots of America.

Working from memory here, but I believe the founding few were:

Chuck Haeberle
Chip Gibbons
Bruce Chien, MD
Mike Andrews
Brian Austin
...with some early apparent participation by Ken Ibold

First public thread:

Followed by the first thread with actual "content," started (appropriately enough) by Mike Andrews: http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26

It has been fun, hasn't it?

---

Shortly after Pilots of America started up, the AOPA board (the old one) was shut down, and it was quite a while (the better part of the year, if I am not mistaken) before AOPA started up what we now call "The Red Board."

Oh yeah, several. Search "yellow board" and you should find several.
