I'm not a gun guy so I didn't even know this was possible.
I thought it was fake initially because of the delay between the shot and the hit.

I can't imagine even being able to see the target.

Pretty unreal.

 
9mm is a rimless round. Note sure how he is got that wheel gun set up to shoot that round.

That is quite the shot. The delay doesn't surprise me. By the time that slug got there it was practically crawling I betcha.

You use something called 'moon clips' to load. Mostly a competition thing, a couple of european police forces used 9mm revolvers for the availability of ammo.

So my little bit of research says ~1200 fpm
Looks right about 3 seconds between shot fired and target hit
3k feet, and the added trajectory sounds right.

I always think of bullets being nearly instant since most are fired at much closer range.

Pretty incredible.
 
It looks like he hit the backstop, low and to the left. Fragments might have gotten the balloon, but even hitting that plate is quite a shot.

Is it possible, it was coming down at that steep an angle?
Again, I know nothing about any of this.
 
We're confused how the video talks about a 929 and you hear 629?
 
I wonder how many attempts he made that we didn't see? Why would anyone want an 8 shot revolver with a long barrel in 9MM?
 
Not sure if this will show up right or not but according to the ballistic calculator I use frequently the velocity at 1000yds will be about 510 feet per second. Thats using a starting velocity of 1250 fps which is about normal for 9mm. Not sure what shooting in a revolver does to velocity but it can't help to have a huge gas leak at 1 inch from the breech.
In any case I used to shoot my 9mm pistols at 900 yds for fun. We had a steel target set up at that range and while I couldn't hit the 18" square plate on purpose at that range I could get pretty close. Occasionally there was a hit but I consider them luck. My pistols had barrel lengths from 4 to 8.5" and velocity would have varied from about 1200 to 1300 fps depending on that length. My pistols all had shoulder stocks as they were first and second world war military pistols. At that range you could easily see the impacts of the bullets in the sand or on the plate and when picking up fired bullets they were damaged by any of the impacts. on the other hand picking up .223 bullets at that range you could almost have reloaded them except for the rifling grooves.

I'm with Stewart B on this....how many shots did we not see. TV and video are wonderful for showing successes while ignoring failures. I know the shooter is world class but the ammo isn't really intended for that range and isn't as accurate as he can be.

The link is the ballistic calculator and it should show a .355 bullet from Sierra with a weight of 125gr and a ballistic coefficient of .150.

To shoot little steel silouette animals at 200 yrds.
 
I believe the revolver is a Ruger Blackhawk Convertible. 9mm rounds can be fired but a full of half moon clip is required. Not too many of them around.

He first said he aimed 75-80 yards ( 220 -240 feet) ABOVE the target..

At the end of the video he said 150 feet ABOVE the target...

Still.. One hell of a ballistic shot..:rolleyes:

I think he said he had the red dot sighted as far down as he could and still had to aim 150 feet above the target.

Listen to him during the first couple of minutes of the video.. He CLEARLY said he aimed 75-80 yards ABOVE the target.....

Poor guy can't keep his story straight....:no::no::nonod:.....:rolleyes2:
 
I'm scratching my head at the balloon pop and the subsequent impact mark on the steel plate. How did that shot break that balloon and still make that kind of mark? The only way the bullet could have hit the balloon would have been from a near-vertical falling trajectory. I wouldn't expect that kind of impact mark from that path. It's a head scratcher.

All I can figure is the bullet shattered and a shard hit the balloon...:dunno:

He used Hornady 147gr XTP hollow-points, they start out at 970fps. If I plug it into Hornadys ballistic calculator, I get 202MOA elevation at 900m which is approx 151ft hold over. Sounds about right.
 
The angle might not have to have been THAT steep. Look how big the balloon was in the initial shot. I dunno... Maybe it was a fragment.

Or a guy off camera with a BB gun :)

I'd encourage you to watch some of his other videos. He shows why banning automatic firearms is a joke, as he can fire a semi-auto just as fast.

I used to shoot NRA Hunters Pistol with granddad's WWII S&W Military and Police Special, .38, 4-1/2" barrel, iron sights. The 100 yard targets were always a challenge, I would aim downrange looking below the gun. Then I discovered gas checks, the kick tripled and I could actually se the target over the top of the gun.

Granted, it wasn't 1000 yards, but it would still help there, custom weapon or not.

Ummm... doesn't .44 magnum, or .45 Long, .357 magnum, .38 Special and many, many others already do this? I think they shoot 9mm because it's a little cheaper than most other rounds.

He didn't hit the balloon, but he did hit the steel plate close enough to the balloon to break it. That's good enough for me. I'm impressed. I could shoot all my life with that gun and never hit the plate.
