    NA - Permanent Christmas Lights

Use a bunch of addressable LED strips, like the one linked below. Cut each string to length, add extension cables between LED sections. Put everything into an outer layer of UV-resistant clear tubing, seal the ends and the connectors after packing them with dielectric grease. Voltage drop might...

    R-44 crash (N62CD), Nov 1, 2024

Eyewitnesses mentioned (I think I saw it in a news article) it sounded like an engine problem and he was aiming for the road, but botched the autorotation when the engine quit.

    In search of Garmin 300XL

It's your time and effort. Consider finding a used 430(W) instead. Better screen and functionality, and when it dies, you can just drop an Avidyne unit in that tray. You won't have that option with the 300XL, Avidyne has already stated they don't have plans to make a drop-in replacement for it...

    In search of Garmin 300XL

Do you have one already installed and non-operational? That's the only way it would make sense, otherwise the installation costs are not worth it for such an old unit. Look in the forum, someone had a 300XL for sale recently. Since you're new, it might be difficult to prove to him you're a legit...

Medical Helicopter, 3 Fatalities, KY, 10/7/2024

Prelim is out. Has a bit more information on the flight path and sequence of events. Communication records from the Kentucky State Police (KSP) revealed that the flight was requested at 1714, and three minutes later, the flight was confirmed with a 14-minute estimated time of arrival...

    Someone Else's Started Project?

Yep. I've seen a few half-built projects that had to be completely rebuilt because the previous builder messed something up as they were losing interest in the build. Mis-drilled rivet holes in fuselage stringers, requiring half of the fuselage skins be removed to replace two firewall to tail...

I find this extraordinary: the CEO is also the test pilot

Here's what's further down the page where that quote is from: "The difference is positive and definite. Right means success; wrong means the neck, together with most of the other bones, will be broken. Permitting myself to dream of the destinies of mankind, I thought how wonderful it would be...

    Single Pilot Airbus?

Yep, I'm sure we'll see it in cargo ops, then charters, before it makes it to 121 (if ever).

    Outdoor Aircraft Storage

To emphasize on the above, all engine bay openings need to be plugged. Additionally, small birds will find their way in the fuselagw through any fresh air vents that don't have a mesh screen. They also love to perch on the VOR antenna and crap on your horizontal stabilizer. If snow/ice...

Why do we switch fuel tanks before landing?

It might be written that way to make you think about it whike you're not task saturated. Check whatever tank you're on, make sure you have enough fuel in it for what will happen next (approach, procedure turn, land, go around), switch if you don't thonk you'll have enough.

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Many moons ago, over the desert, a flight of three Chinooks was conducting a night training mission. About half an hour from base, the captain in the lead aircraft decided they had to land, NOW. He jumps out of the pilot seat, out the ramp and disappears into the night. 5 minutes pass, then 10...
