    Cloud Tops

I use Windy, but not the Premium version. I find the cloud tops page so imprecise as to be nearly useless. What am I missing? If I am trying to decide whether to file for 6,000 or 8,000, for example, Windy is no help. The SkewT/LogP app was much more helpful in visualizing the atmosphere's...

    Cloud Tops

What source do you use to get an idea of cloud tops in your preflight planning? Since the government in its wisdom has made Skew-T/LogP unavailable, I haven't found an alternate source for this information. There used to be cloud top forecasts at 1800wxbrief but I can't find that information now.

    Brokers

A broker is a middleman, a facilitator. If you're buying from the registered owner, and he/she signs the form that it's a casual sale, it's a casual sale, broker notwithstanding.

T210...Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly

The CG-moves-aft-with-fuel-burn thing with the A36 is much exaggerated. From full fuel to empty, the CG moves less than 1" aft. The A36 has a wide CG envelope and is hard to load out of the envelope. Can't help with the climbing-over-the-wing thing, though.

Skew-T diagrams removed because blind people can’t see them

I thought this was from the Onion it's so absurd. But no, I checked SkewT LogP Pro app on my phone, which I use a lot, and it's blank.

Cheapest way to build retract time

I flew myself, wife, and another couple South Carolina to the Bahamas in a Mooney M20C. I did have to lay down the law that the blender wasn't going. My first retract and a great plane.

    FltPlan.go

I've used FltPln Go on an old Samsung tablet for years. It's completely stable on approach plates but often quits on maps when I zoom in or out. Doing so slowly helps but isn't foolproof. When this happens I have to restart FltPln, not the device. If I flew more I'd probably spring for...

91.126(b)(1) - Yes, Virginia, it is regulatory.

Many valid points in this discussion, but many seem to talk past each other due to the variety of situations that exist----amount of traffic, speed mix, etc. One size doesn't fit all. Midfield crosswind, straight-in, teardrop to 45, upwind deg all have their place depending on many factors...

What is the difference between a PT and a HILPT?

This was the original question. I've speculated on why PTs have disappeared from GPS approaches. Haven't heard a convincing explanation.

What is the difference between a PT and a HILPT?

But the HILPT gives you a magenta line to follow all the way. The best entry is obvious from the display. No doubt the HIL depiction makes the course reversal simpler than the "old" PT.

What is the difference between a PT and a HILPT?

No real difference seems to me. HILPT seems better adapted to the visual displays on today's nav screens. Maybe that's why they have replaced PT's on GPS approaches.

    Done . . .

Very sorry to hear of this diagnosis. As a 78 year old pilot myself, I am always waiting for the "shoe to drop". Not a frequent poster myself, I have always appreciated your insightful views and "Flying the Motorcycle to Alaska".

    IFR time

Insurance renewal asks for instrument time. I only log actual IMC + hood time. Never just because on an IFR flight plan. My logbooks have had columns for Actual Instrument and Simulated. No mention of "IFR".

    High Performance and Complex Rating

CFI can endorse, no need for examiner. Don't know about Canadian CFI endorsement. Common sense says yes, but . . . No formal training. With your experience, probably just a short flight with a CFI.

    My tailwheel training impressions..

If you grease a wheel landing on, great. A little forward stick to keep in on. However, you will sometimes bounce, everyone does. In this case, the "stick forward" advice can result in PIO and a go-around (or worse). On the rare occasions I have bounced :) I've found it best to slightly...

    New To The Forum

    1. My third trip from Texas to Alaska. 2. Flying into Jackson Hole from the east on a crystal clear day. Really, too many to pick from.

The limit on local taxes spelled the end of itemization for me.

Why GA exclusive w umbrella policies?

Look at your policy. That $1M usually includes a $100k per person or per occupant limit, and quite low coverage for medical expenses. From the insurance company's perspective, I suspect the odds of a big payout from GA are higher that from a car accident or someone tripping on your walkway.
