Can a CFII instruct with Basicmed instead of an FAA medical?

Yes? I gotta check nuances. But certainly can if done under vfr. Further checking shows yes. Just can’t go higher than 18k or faster than 250 if he’s the pic of the flight. IFR is fine. If he’s not the pic, doesn’t even need any sort of medical.

How much did poor training contribute to this accident?

No, but it probably could be emphasized more. Think about it, have you EVER heard of that? It’s RARE. And DIFFICULT. But if there’s something to be learned, it’s likely this. Edit: poor DPE is skills only, too small a window. This is more of a CFI thing. Not that someone can’t shop...

How much did poor training contribute to this accident?

Maybe a better title for the thread would be along the lines of “a failure in the leadership aspect of training”?

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

Standard weights…. I used to could count by 185’s up to 34…. In the summer I could count by 175’s!

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

Some absolutely do, all are quite involved in the process. The training you get under the veil of “performance” is very wt and balance centric. I’d say practically all 121 and 135 guys are VERY aware in this respect. To wit: Literally used a whiz wheel for EVERY flight in a Saab 340. Many...

How much did poor training contribute to this accident?

Well, these types will be these types. Not much to be learned there. So what can we do to help going forward? Don’t BLAME the CFI/DPE, but maybe try to bend their paradigm to catch these sorts of attitudes more than drilling math or ASOS decoding skills… A good pilot doesn’t know ALL this...

How much did poor training contribute to this accident?

This. Someone didn’t realize this pilot had a bad case of invulnerability, or too much machismo… something along these lines. This had little or nothing to do with actual performance during the teaching or evaluating process. THIS is what instructors need to be figuring out. It’s HARD to put...

How much did poor training contribute to this accident?

Before doing even a shallow dive into this… let’s do what I usually do and go one step further, hopefully towards root cause. What do you mean by training? On the surface this reeks of someone not identifying a dangerous trait. By someone, a flight instructor…. Just because you can meet the...

Senior Enlisted Petty Officer Court Martialed

I wouldn’t say there are limited punitive measures… incarceration without due process, that’s heavy. The president, congressman nor a judge can do that to a citizen. Once you get the art 15, issue counseling. Getting a second is child’s play. Pattern of misconduct ADSEP. I had to do this...

Tougher to art 15 them but it can be done. And prolly should. Pretty aggregious. The bald face lying about it is REALLY bad.

Senior Enlisted Petty Officer Court Martialed

Hmmm… the reason for leniency is the courts martial. What should have happened is get underway, hit 12.00001 miles then Capt Mast (article 15, NJP). The deal is, you can’t refuse art 15 for a courts martial in international waters. THEN she could be busted to a E-1 and given a duck dinner...

Reapplying for Private License after failing an alcohol test?

There’s LOTS of part 121 airline guys who have “failed” numerous times. They seem to have no problem. I would say yes, it can be done.

How to enter a holding pattern?

Entering holding is merely an indication of poor radio skills… just sayin… To wit: got holding the other night in Mexico. Was unable to talk my way out of it, try as I might.

french fries (N/A, for potato's sake)

You ain’t even making sense… the cut MUST maximize surface area for GOOD crispiness factor, because soggy is disguising. Steak cut is right out. I’ll let the engineers mathematically determine the order, but I’m thinkin shoestring tops the list, followed by thin cut. And you need REALLY...
