    C150 or C152

Congratulations, Ahmad! Based on my experience, I agree with Dana. Use TCP if you run 100LL. If you can, use mogas. No ethanol though.

Help me find a used truck

I had a 1992 Toyota pickup prior to the advent of the Tacoma and Tundra. It was a 4WD extended cab with automatic transmission. The 4WD shifter was on the floor. I said all that to encourage you to stay with Toyota. I wish I had my old one back! I have “shopped around” on Craigslist and...

    C150 or C152

Besides “time building,” either one of those two airplanes can teach you a lot about flying. Like a lot of others here, I vote for the 150.

    Cessna 150 Aerobat

I would personally prefer an Aerobat over a Citabria if I did not have a hangar available. Ask Catherine Cavagnaro in Sewanee, Tennessee, whether or not Aerobats can do aerobatics . :) A super Decathlon would be better, but each of us has to pay our money and make our choice.

    Rolling a cessna

What a great slow roll, Wifferdill. Thanks for letting us ride along.

    Sold selling my 172G

Very nice looking 172G, Matt, and very reasonably priced. We had a G model for a few years and really liked it. Ours was similarly equipped, except we had an old LORAN instead of the Garmin 496. I have regretted thousands of times that we sold that airplane. I would be all over yours except...

    getting a license but older

My advice (for what it’s worth) considering the proposed MOSIAC rule changes is to start flying but hold off on the medical for a while. Most likely, you will be able to enjoy flying as a Sport Pilot on your drivers license after the rule becomes effective. I would tell the school this is my...

(Comfortably) Buying a plane without a prebuy?

There are a lot of variables. Buying a fairly simple airplane, yes.

Am I Setting up the Kid for Disappointment?

I personally don’t think it is the bureaucrats (a terrible term by the way!) but instead the process. Just compare the “owner’s manual” for say a 1968 airplane with the flight manual for a 2023 Cessna 172. There is a tendency for regs to grow as they get nit picked.

    Basic Med

I am in that same boat. I asked my long time AME about BM, but he “doesn’t do BM.”

YAWASIGT - Yet Another What Aircraft Should I Get Thread

That’s what I was thinking. I believe it checks most of your boxes.

    Paint colors and safety

Based on a sample size of one (and agreeing with Mauleskinner, Dbahn and NoHeat) yellow is the most visible. Flying with ADS-B In in an area with quite a bit of GA traffic and a big part of that Ag traffic, when a target shows up on my iPad, the yellow Ag plans are always much, much easier to...

Can you get IR without VOR/ILS receivers?

The problem I see with checking with your intended DPE is that there are precedents where the FAA has negated checkrides given by a particular DPE. Here we are on page 4 of this thread and still trying to clarify. It would be nice if the FAA would jump in and remove any doubt!

    TKM has closed down

They didn’t look cheesy to me compared to the ARC radios they (for the most part) replaced. They did their job.

    Basic Med and logbook

I just keep my BasicMed documentation folded up and in an envelope stuck in the back of my paper log book. I leave that home unless I am undergoing a flight review. I am concerned that if I am hauling important things around with me, they may get lost somehow.

    IFR study programs

I have heard good things about Sporty’s IFR latest video series.

    Visual Approach

Practically speaking, no difference. You still need to watch for traffic and enter the pattern to blend with other traffic, or follow ATC instructions.

    What an epic trip!

It is really nice to be able to travel like you did with your family, and not be under a huge time constraint to get back home. My job, before I retired, would rarely let me do that. We traveled some, but always in the back of my mind was “we need to be home by ….” I often left a day early...

    What an epic trip!

Sounds like you had a great trip, Chris! When a lot of us read about what you just did, it reminds me (at least) of what Thoreau said (if I have the quote right!): “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Good for you getting out and getting ‘er done!
