    Warehouse explosion in Tianjin, China

I'm betting it was containers of fireworks, in port waiting to load, that went off in the fire.

Might want to also take a look at performance engines when looking for someone to do your high compression top. I used Barrett but they have, in my opinion, been slipping in quality in the past years. Actually netting 30hp from such an increase in compression isn't as easy as changing the...

Seems everyone does normal takeoff a little different. I like to keep climb speeds somewhat higher. 120 kts until 500ft then 140 up to 2000 ft ish then cruise climb 160 - 180 kts depending on how big a hurry we are to get high and how hot it is out. Also better visibility over a big cowl keeping...

It would be interesting, however impractical, to switch props for a day and see what happened with the speeds.

Talking about new top end... I went with new ECI titans and 10:1 compression during my overhaul. Barrett did the porting and other flow tricks on the build. I really thought I would get more speed from all the money spent on the engine however knots are elusive. All in all the 30 extra HP...

I would think you should be at least up near 215-220 with your setup even with a slightly forward cg. Another place to look for loss of speed is your gear doors. Vibration over time wore my hinges enough so that airflow at speed caused them to push down and back just enough lose about 8 kts...

Sorry to hear about the speed, that was a lot of coin. I was really hoping you'd get at least the same as the std 2 blade installation. My wallet is probably happy I won't be running out to get one though. There probably is something going on elsewhere other then the prop though. Just before my...

Now that your flying with the new prop, what kind of speed are you getting?

The AFF course was free for jump pilots at the dz I flew for. How can you say no to free stuff? Got the ticket, never did it again. I prefer to stay inside planes!

All kinds of cool new upgrades.. Very interested to see what kind if speed you get with the 3 blade.

I think I'd rather be tracked and recorded. All the better to be able to prove I do nothing wrong if ever falsely accused.

Flying a steep approach path from a higher pattern definity gives you more options in case of trouble. Little bit like a shuttle landing. ;) I also don't much care for runways shorter then 3k.

A lot of years behind 6 cyl lycomings and 400 hours in this plane certainly develops some old hard to break habits. Wivestales or gospel, engine management styles are still hotly debated by pilots and mechanics. Until someone proves definitively slow power/rpm changes are bad for engines.. I'll...

Losing speed in this plane is tough without chopping the power. It's a old habit and I've been trained to do power, prop and mixture changes in very slow gradual increments unless it becomes a safety issue to not do so quickly. Power reductions in 1 to 2 inch increments with at least several...

I must admit to knowing little about the scimitar design so it will be very interesting to see how it all works out for you. Keep us posted on your progress building the perfect traveling machine. And if your ever headed out west.. love to to see your beautiful plane in person.
