Any reason not to switch my nav data scription from Jepp to Garmin?

I paid Jeppesen $440 back in November for my subscription. Sure wish I had known about this then. Jeppesen has had a monopoly for too long.

    Retractable confidence

Most gear up incidents occur because of a DISTRACTION. Anything that takes you out of the normal flow of entering the pattern and going through the checklist. The checklist can be its own distraction. Dave gave some good examples of things that can go wrong. Passengers tend to point out...

    ADS-B single box compliance

If you are under the class C airspace and have no need to go in it you will not be required to have ADS-B out. If you are under class B that is another matter. You only will need "out" where a transponder is required now.

Century 1 Autopilot and Replacing Loran

The knob on the right side of the Century 1 selects between tracking (pushed in) or holding a heading (pulled out). The left knob is a high/low sensitivity switch and l/r trim. I have one and it works good for what it is, no altitude hold. It did work off the Loran in it's day. Now it is...

New Owner: Couple of Questions for ya

I had my seats redone by a local auto upholstery shop. They can get material that meets the FAR requirements. Here is a link to the material used on mine. http://spradlingvinyl.com/catalog_colors/Patriot%20Plus%20II/PAT-8611%20Terra%20Cotta Joe

    Foreflight ....No Fix?

It just might be the internal GPS chip that is the problem. I am on my third IPAD because the GPS went intermittent like yours is doing. So far they have been covered under warranty. If my current one quits too then it will be out of my pocket expense. I do have a Stratus II, so for...

555 nm each way, what to buy or do?

If you are thinking of a Comanche consider the 260 over the others. They are slightly faster than a 250 and have fuel injection. Most if not all have 90 gallons of fuel. The longest single leg trip we have done in ours is from fmy-pah (720 nm) in 4.5 hours and used 60 gallons of gas. I...

    Plans for ADS-B out

Code90, The weather from the Stratus and the GDL88 are the same. The ads-b weather is blocky compared to the xm weather on my 496. However if the display shows red, don't go there. I like the weather presentation on the Ipad the best as it is easy to change the range and scroll around. I...

    Plans for ADS-B out

I installed the GDL88 back in November, it is connected to my 430W. The traffic is the reason I did it now. I also have stratus 2, i pad and foreflight. When there happened to be someone with ads-b out near me I could see traffic on the i pad, kind of got spoiled and had to have that...

    Transponder/ADS B recommendations

I got the basic unit as I did not need it to have an internal GPS as I get that information from the 430W. I also did not think that the diversity option was needed.

    Transponder/ADS B recommendations

I recently had a Garmin GDL88 installed. I already had a 430W so that saved me quite a bit of expense. I needed a new encoder as my old one did not have an RS232 output which the GDL88 needs as an altitude input. My transponder is King KT76A which did not need replacing. I get the weather...

I think I have a ground loop problem.

FYI, the installation instructions for the EDM700 state that it must be grounded at the engine. This is to eliminate erratic readings. Maybe your installation requires the same. Worth checking.

    Insurance renewal/age discrimination

I just got my insurance renewal form. Under Special pilot requirements it said: "All pilots that are over the age of 69 years are required annual FAA medical certification." What is up with this? Has anyone else had to deal with this?
