    The Greatest Vinyl Album Ever..........

Welllllll-- For me it was "The Missing Linc", Lincoln Mayorga and Distinguished Colleagues, from Sheffield Labs, 1972. Direct from the studio to the master disc. Also, Van Cliburn and the New York Philharmonic, with guest conductor Kiril Kondrashin, 1958. The Texan that conquered the Soviet...

    Degaussing

...Or travel back in time. About the same time our ship was being degaussed at Point Loma, off the tip of Sandy Eggo, a paperback novel found its way aboard about a ship that was sent back to the Greek era because of it being degaussed. It was really, incredibly, superlatively mediocre...

    Airspeed/Altimeter calibration

Lance, I'm inclined to agree, and am too lazy to go looking any harder:P. We ran into all three temperatures back at the nuclear power plant where I worked; 4*C, 20*C and one supplier of differential pressure gauge/transmitters, ITT Barton, decided to use the 60*F ANSI standard, just to be...

    Airspeed/Altimeter calibration

Just bumping this, and throwing a question wrench in the works...:) What reference temperature is used for altimeters/airspeed indicators, and does it matter (I suspect it doesn't, per se)? Allow me to explain: If a column of water 100" tall is kept at a 4*C temperature uniformly throughout...

    2008 Aviation Goals - how'd you do?

Well, I racked up enough hours to knock almost $100.00 off the next insurance bill. More importantly, got my 4yr/9mo old granddaughter up in the air! Definitely passed!! Just the other day she and I did our first "cross country" M17 to RAW and back. She was a great co-pilot, keeping my...

Jessica Cox on Fox & Friends...

So here it is at 7:55am on the 26th, and "Fox & Friends" is broadcasting a story on the young lady born with no arms who has apparently got her LSA ticket and is shown flying an Ercoupe 415C. The news segment mentioned she is also a motivational speaker, whose website is rightfooted.com. Nice...

    Inaccurate tach = grounded?

"You can only check accuracy not 'calibrate'." True, in the sense spelled out in your post. However, if we found the Unit Under Test close to being out of tolerance, we would, after having taken the "As Found" or "As Received" data, adjust it closer to nominal then take "As Left" data prior to...

    Inaccurate tach = grounded?

Thanks for pointing that out, Cap'n Ron, as I neglected to do so (and I also saw a typo error or two in my previous). What's important is, say your mechanical tach has index marks for every 100rpm, with, of course, the 1000rpm index marks silk-screened a little differently, with the numbers...

    Inaccurate tach = grounded?

Regarding mag checks (and that is all I'm addressing in this post), you're not really looking for exactly 1725rpm, +/- 4% or whatever. What you're looking for is a drop of, say, 75 (or 50 or 100[--whatever your POH says]) rpm, in harmony with a slightly lower frequency in the sound of the...

    Granddaughter's First Flight!

Oh, we did, Diana! Joy's earlier memories consisted of a missionary trip to Montana, wherein she almost crushed David's hand, especially on the hop from Spokane to Kalispell on the DeHaviland Dash-8 (I thought it was a great flight:yes:). She took 88 photos this time, and the flight only...

    Granddaughter's First Flight!

They're ok. Don't have frequency response as my Telex units, and they're not stereo; however, they fit Kelsey, and she enjoyed them. I paid $170.00 from the good folks in Batavia, and they made it here in three days (just in time). I would recommend them, with the above caveats. Enjoy!

    Granddaughter's First Flight!

D'oh! (To quote Homer Simpson.) Kelsey is 4yrs, 9months old. BTW, "Girls don't fly" was her mantra a year ago, even after we saw Katie, a young lady from Ireland building up hours, land at FTT solo, hop out of the C150 and gas it up alone. She knows better now! One of these days, I'll have...

    Granddaughter's First Flight!

So yesterday my granddaughter, Kelsey, and her mom, Joy, and I went up, Kelsey's and Joy's first time with me; I had just purchased her "youth" headset. Engine was already warmed up with the heaters, had a nice direct x-wind of about 10-14 knots, and the temperature was about 50degF. So, after...

    Gaston's in October

So what time did you leave, Diana? Sort of glad we weren't there today, what with the winds being like you describe...:) (Mary's still getting used to the potholes in the air (and so am I).)

    Gaston's in October

Hey, Dr. Bruce: Strip was good today at noon, in my lil' ol' underpowered Cherokee 140... Enjoy brunch tomorrow, and have a good flight down and back!
