    Training cats?

Any animal that walks in its own crap does not belong where I put my food. Period.

    Training cats?

That one is a good solution, too.

    Training cats?

When you say "sticky tape", did you use bits of tape or a full sheet of contact paper? I've done the latter. When they get all tangled up in it and need help getting disconnected, it doesn't take long to just avoid the area where it happened. Might consider some of the cat-stay-away sprays on...

    Lightning strikes twice

I've moved the post above from a different area for those interested in the followup.

    Hearing Aids

My wife has one of the programmable digital models (forget the make) for just one ear. Total was $2,200, including the "tune up" visits and fittings. For what she's getting, I didn't think that was too bad. Of course, now I can't mutter at her and get away with some things... :hairraise:

    128bit WEP

Some APs require a certain key length for WEP. The 64-bit key will be truncated if your key is long enough but it won't work for 128-bit. Try a longer key or switch to WPA-PSK with a passphrase.

    WGA, Windows, and you

Yeah, I have a few of those but mainly for server level stuff (Exchange, SQL, etc.) Ugh. No kidding. I don't even bother trying to figure it out anymore. I call my software licensing rep and tell her what I've got and what I need. And I get it in writing that I'm compliant. ;) Is it...

    Name calling and personal attacks

Oddly enough, for all the complaining in here about those posts...there were no Bad Post reports for the posts in question. Keep in mind that a sincere belief that a RoC violation has taken place must precede the Bad Port report. And since I'm involved in this thread, I'm automatically out of...

Another easy project fighting to a draw...

I've finally come to the conclusion that I simply don't know how long something is going to take. When someone asks how long, I usually respond "if you need it that fast, I'm not your guy". ;)

    Firewalls and Antivirus questions

MAC authentication takes too much overhead from my experience. It's either PPPoE with no authentication (ie they are authenticating the circuit itself) or it's already got it on there. My issues are videoconferencing (H.323 doesn't play well with double NAT) and VPN access (it's a backup VPN...

    Name calling and personal attacks

The apology was fine but the continued effort to justify it pretty much nullified it in my opinion. As for the political stuff here in Spin Zone: you're welcome to continue to post BUT you have to be able to take the heat for your posts. Everyone does, as you've already seen. Others on both...

    Name calling and personal attacks

I'm sorry but the list has little to do with humor. I wouldn't see it as humorous had it been reversed, either. And it's been floating around on the 'net for years. It's not really all that new. "Liar" and "hate speech" are subjective, unfortunately. Quite frankly, I consider the list...

    Firewalls and Antivirus questions

Not necessarily. A four month old Qwest DSL modem at my office (backup for our 2 T-1s) has a userid/password + DHCP server but no firewall features. It receives its outside IP via DHCP and provides an internal 192.168.x.x address to our firewall. Double NAT doesn't play well with some stuff...

    Name calling and personal attacks

Because an honest, factual debate requires knowledge, communications, and open-mindness to accept when the facts don't lean your way. And it's happened on both sides of the aisle, regardless of what anyone thinks. We regularly get complaints from BOTH "liberals" and "conservatives" that the...

    Firewalls and Antivirus questions

A DHCP server itself is not a protection method. It's simply a way of handing out IP addresses automatically. NAT (Network Address Translation) provides inbound "protection" by simply not having a way to map outside-to-inside IP addresses permanently. Most firewalls have the ability to do...

    Firewalls and Antivirus questions

Not so. Most DSL modems are, in fact, DHCP servers but NOT firewalls. They are simple routers, nothing more. Keep the Linksys, make sure the firmware is kept up to date and the defaults will usually take care of anything that comes along.

    Where is the cheap land?

The only thing you really have with that situation is a mining rights. It's not "owned" by you and you cannot enforce trespassing laws, hunting, fishing or any other limitations. Hikers can literally walk right through your yard and there is nothing you can do about it. It's public land.

    Where is the cheap land?

But it's not MINE. Ownership is key here. If the BLM withdraws the claim privilege (and it's worked so they can but historically haven't), it's gone. I'm not dumping over $100K into a house and shop to see it go back to the government at some bureaucrat's whim.

    Where is the cheap land?

Gold claims aren't ownership. The government still owns the land and I can't build on it. Interesting idea, though, and beautiful country.
