Things I Learn in IFR Training - Who Knew?

My instructors favorite quote for IFR. “Fly the bug!” He taught me to always fly the heading bug and adjust it as needed to keep the needles centered. Good stuff! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    My Wife's First Solo

We have an RV9 and she could have trained in that. But she did not want to beat it up like can happen in training. Also in the RV everything happens much quicker. It’s tougher to scrub speed, and it’s just not quite as forgiving as a 172. So she opted to learn in a 172. Sent from my iPad...

    My Wife's First Solo

It was actually more exciting watching my wife get to do this whole pilot thing than when I went through it. Pretty neat day last week when I got to see my wife solo. I was surprised at the range of emotions I had when she was up there. Her aviation goal is to get her ticket and get to fly our...

    Recent GA experience with KLAS?

I flew in to KLAS a few weeks ago in my RV9. Filed IFR in and vfr out. It was easy peasy and they accommodated me the whole way. It helped that I kept 140 knots until about 3 miles out as they didn’t have to slow anyone down behind me. Overall it was a really fun experience and my first bravo...

    Bo down Pembroke Pines, FL

The plane had very limited hours on it over the past 10 years in a corrosive environment out in Florida. I think it averaged 4.9 a year since a major rebuild and only had 350ish hours total time. Then again, it could be any number of things. I just always feel a plane being flown a lot is a...

    Bo down Pembroke Pines, FL

If he wasn’t stalled he was sure coming down at a steep angle. I know bonanzas aren’t the best gliders but damn. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

    First Time Airplane Buyer....maybe

Yep! Mine is 155 knots true at 7.5. And it likes to fly high. I flew 240 hours last year and spent less money overall than renting a 182 for 100 hours the year before. And went way faster to boot! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    G3X touch + GNX375 a minimalist EAB IFR panel? Backup "gyro"(G5) req'd? GTN650 instead of GNX375?

It’s experimental. You don’t need Garmin stuff. You could do a IFR panel with an autopilot much cheaper by looking at other companies. GRT is a great example of affordable stuff. If i was building a plane I would want it to be IFR capable just in case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Vans RV 4 vs. Cessna 150, which is more cramped?

You won’t notice the size of the RV because you will be grinning from ear to ear the whole time you’re flying it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Any of you Experimental types comply with this

I’ve flown an RV for two years and even done a Checkride in it. I’ve never said the words experimental to a controller. I guess I’m a rule breaker! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Light plane down in Livermore, CA, near KVLK

I know the people involved. Everyone was ok. They lost the engine at very low altitude. No injuries just some dented metal. The pilot did a great job getting it down. Ntsb and the faa are involved so I do not want to comment more until that’s all over with. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

O2 conservation - MH vs SkyOx

Anothe vote for the skyox. That’s what we use in the RV and the 10lb bottle has lasted long enough for all the trips I have made. During the summer we were flying between 14-16k in an RV. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Raptor Aircraft

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N352TD/history/20210204/1645Z/KVLD/KVLD Flight track shows maybe a power off 180 at the end. Good job getting it down as he was descending rapidly when the motor went. 1500fpm at 800 feet agl. I bet that was a scary ride. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
