    Southeast Lunch (and beer) Fans

TFR's start a few hours before the game - flying in that morning should be no big deal. Or, fly to KCAE 5 miles away.

Stall/Spin after takeoff caught on video

"Although the airplane is a long way from being a Cessna 210 in the overall handling and ride category, it is noticeably better than the aforementioned American Yankee. When the power is brought back, the stall characteristics are also reminiscent of the Yankee. Again, depending on the...

Sorry - I didn’t look at this again until afterwards. I’ll buy you a beer when you come here in September.

Here is a link to the video my flight instructor and his wife made from this event - as an added bonus, you can hear me on the radio at the beginning, and see me land (fast and long) a little later on.

It’s not far from downtown Columbia, which has hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. We have good Uber coverage and the FBO has courtesy cars. It’s a very nice airport.

I am based at KCUB - H-G is nice, they really did justice to the character of the building. Good place to get a cold beer after a hot flight (or doing maintenance in a hot hangar).

    Going to Outer Banks, NC

MQI would be my choice. Rental car is no problem, call the airport to set it up. Great airport, good people, reasonable fuel prices, cool airplanes. Traffic speed should be about the same either way, so the shorter route should be faster. Recommend lunch at Blue Water Inn at Pirate’s Cove just...

    How to navigate thunderstorms?

Agreed- I did my first couple long flights recently where cloud coverage was an issue. I deviated a little from course to stay on the edge of the thicker coverage, or only went straight over it when I could see where it ended either visually or by checking AWOS at airports around me. Also...

I am looking forward to this. Breakfast is usually ready before 9. Usually $8 per person. Go here and let them know how many you are bringing: http://www.tripletreeaerodrome.com/sc-breakfast-club.php Note right pattern if 21 is in use.

Just finished 1st lesson and having 2nd thoughts

Most people go through this! That is exactly what happened to me, but I am very glad I stuck with it. Half of learning to fly Is just getting used to physically being in the plane and in the air. The nausea doesn’t last but for a couple lessons. Fly early in the morning.

I suggest you consider joining EAA and doing some Young Eagles flights. Lots of fun and a good way to give back.

Too Damn Many Crashes This Weekend

If it weren’t dangerous, everyone would do it and it wouldn’t be cool.

Too Damn Many Crashes This Weekend

Sounds like a good number of these reports are successful off-field landings, not crashes. Still sorry for the losses.

First cross country solo...and a big mistake!

Agreed, it made things much easier for me when I went from leg band to suction cup.
