    Routing Question KJWN --> KMQY

    I did this flight today. I got clearance on the ground before departing. They routed me right over BNA. All good. Thanks for all of the feedback and advice.

    Pax right turning tendency

    Switch the fuel to the right tank. When the left tank becomes heavier you'll be in alignment. Steer the plane only with the fuel selector knob.

    Routing Question KJWN --> KMQY

    The class C shelf is 2100, the VFR minimum altitude in that area is 2,200. If I fly at 2000 feet, I'm 200 feet below the min altitude. There's a tower on the route at 2049. I consider that dangerous. But hey, I'm still a beginner.

    Routing Question KJWN --> KMQY

    I want to fly VFR from KJWN to KMQY. The direct route is through the Nashville Class C. I had a CFII recommend I stay under the shelf, but that seems dangerous and unnecessary to me. Should I: 1. Somehow get clearance before departing? 2. Take off and then contact Nashville Approach? 3...

    VFR Routing question

    Thanks for the advice everyone. In summary, it's okay to go through an MOA, just be sure to talk to them along the way.

    VFR Routing question

    Any advice on how to get from KJWN to M34? There's a MOA and a restricted area on the direct route. I would rather not go all the way around. /G

    Instrument check ride discontinuance

    AD's are available online. Maybe next time go to this link: https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/airworthiness_directives/search/?q=lance It's worth a try. "Each pilot in command shall, before beginning a flight, become familiar with all available information concerning that flight."

    My Dream Airplane - Nuclear Powered

    I just read an article about wastebasket-sized nuclear power plants. Image your favorite airframe, Cessna, Cirrus, Diamond, Cub, Baron, Bonanza, Moony, Waco, etc. Except with an electric engine powered by a miniature nuclear power plant. This plane would never need re-fueling and it would fly...

    Below glidelope?

    This is very helpful. Thank you.

    Below glidelope?

    If I'm on a precision approach and I find myself below the glideslope, say by one tick mark, should I climb to intercept or hold altitude until I intercept? For the sake of this question, let's assume I'm right on the localizer.

    Help me plan my IFR adventure

    I'm a new instrument student. Part 61. I still need 27 hours of sim or actual IMC and 24 hours of XC. I also still need to complete the long IFR XC. I've already passed the written. My CFII has agreed to accompany me on a 3-day IFR training trip. We are starting in Nashville (KMQY) and the...

    Question about airline go arounds

    Last week on a SWA flight we did a go around that "felt" like a missed approach. The pilot said he was asked to go around due to traffic. We came back and landed without issue. Yesterday my girlfriend told me her flight into Houston went around after being "just a few feet" from the ground...

    IFR Finally: At 63

    I love this story. Congratulations! One question, how much did you pay for the sim and was it worth it? I am in a similar situation and I thought the money would be better spent on flying.

    Just passed my instrument written. 92%

    Congrats Stephen! I have a very similar story, PPl in 1986 and now getting my IR in 2017, 31 years later. I found a CFII who wasn't even born when I became a pilot. :) I told him that when I started flying a NAV Comm was a luxury, and the 152s we flew certainly didn't have DMEs. He looked...

    Just passed my instrument written. 92%

    I'd say a good 25-30 hours of study. I was interested in actually learning the material so I would do further research on topics that were confusing and/ or interesting. I enjoyed the process. I like doing the math problems.
