Funny things non-pilots say on GA flights

First passenger I gave a ride to, after we took the runway, I verified he was ready and he said "I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little nervous." 30 seconds later he said "This is effing awesome."

For Sale Wings of Hope Announces Fall Aircraft Raffle

It is "withholding," not a tax bill. The difference is, the W-2G or 1099 that they would issue to you would show the $50,000 as income and the $12,500 as withholding that you would claim on your return. If the actual tax liability is less than the withholding, you get a refund, if more you pay...

Flying issues with the other half..

I don't disagree with this approach, however, my goal was to simply get spouse in the plane. Baby steps. Hopefully, she'll go again and we can try to actually "go somewhere" next time.

    UFQ L2 ANR in-ear headset

I've seen them on ebay and considered buying. Wasn't able to find any sort of review on them, however. Didn't want to throw the money away on garbage. Thanks for posting.

Flying issues with the other half..

I know this thread is quite old, but I felt this response belonged here. After having my PPL for over 4 years now. I finally had the passenger I've wanted with me. My wife agreed to go up, around the pattern, and land last night. Very smooth flight. Hopefully, not the last time. JD

    Sports Rivalries

I think you meant to say NU-OU used to be a good one. Until the formation of the Big 12 (when OU was sucking), OU stopped playing NU every year. Rivalry is hard to keep up when you only play every few years.

The truth of being maried w/ kids exposed....

I did. I said "JD" and when he asked me how to spell that, I looked him straight in the eye and slowly said "J....D" then couldn't stop laughing for 20 minutes.

    Death of the Corvette

I bought my first car when I was 14 (school permit). 1986 VW Jetta, MT Diesel. It had 115,000 miles on it when I bought it. I sold it to my dad as a commuter when I finally bought my first new car. Odometer kept stopping and starting, so not real sure of mileage, but the odometer read...

    Death of the Corvette

My younger brother has 1 arm that is missing about 1 1/2-2 inches below elbow (born that way). When he went to the DMV for his first driver's license, they put a restriction on his license to only drive automatic transmission vehicles. He questioned them on what the restriction code was. When...

    Amusing exchange

I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It is certainly different than what I am used to.

State income tax & paid piloting

I've had many clients receive letters from both California and Iowa trying to assess state income taxes because the taxpayer received a 1099-Misc from a payer that happened to have an address in their state. They assumed my client must have worked in the state. Once I explained the 1099 was...

State income tax & paid piloting

This is the most accurate post in this entire thread. Air carriers, interstate over the road truck drivers, etc have a special provision that applies to them. I used to have the court case available all the time, but haven't had any clients that it pertained to for a number of years, so I...

A guy has got to know his limitations

I don't fly from the middle of January to the middle of April due to this. As a tax accountant, I know I am fatigued from February to April. 18+ hours a day, 6 days a week will do that to you. I just stay away so I am not tempted.

    Anybody using robotic lawn mowers?

A neighbor that used to have an immaculate looking yard got one last year. Don't know if he got tired of working on it all the time or what. However, I drove by and hadn't even seen the robot mower yet, made the comment how awful his lawn looked. Couple weeks later I saw the little mower...

    [NA]Payroll Service cost[NA]

Shawn, Not sure how many employees you have, but that would be in line with what my firm charges to do payroll...depending on how often you run payroll. If weekly, that is pretty high.

FlyBlackBird.com: Yet another desires to be the Uber of the Skies

That's a pretty interesting interpretation of the Internal Revenue Code Section 61. Let me know how that position holds up when the IRS comes by.

    Long cross country

Both KVMR and KYKN have tall chain link fence surrounding them. Critters should not be a problem.

    Long cross country

Both KVMR and KYKN are nice little airports. Both have a brick lounge building. My PPL was and still is based out of KVMR so I've landed there a few times. Note RWY 12 is Right Traffic and RWY 30 is Left Traffic. KYKN has 2 runways if crosswinds is an issue and is not much further than KVMR...
