    New Bendix - King Boxes

I read someplace recently, Aviation Consumer (maybe), that the next software update to the G1000s (and probably the 430W/530W) will include Airways in the map database. That should help. I wonder if the recent work on RNAV SIDs/STARs is precipitating this update. I rarely get an Arrival...

First post and Looking for a flying club

The G1000 is different way of flying. Intuitive ? I wouldn't go that far, but it is well-thought out. There are a few things I wish that were different with regards to loading freqs. I would like to fly a G1000 with a GNC700 autopilot. What I like is the presentation of the information...

First post and Looking for a flying club

I train with FlightGest at RDU. They have a very modern fleet of well maintained aircraft. The T206H is a great plane, my favorite to fly actually. The majority of their fleet is G1000s, so you can expect to need a G1000 check-out as well as type but they can usually be combined. The T206H...

Add-on mikes for Bose N/A ANR headsets?

I don't have one. I saved the link too. I've got the comfort2 headset. Maybe next year I can add the mic for it.

I like the placement of those backup gauges. Use the LifeSaver AI (1 hr internal battery), and we'd be golden. I wonder if putting them in front of the right seat is enough for certification ? Probably not.

    First Logbook: Suggestions

I've been using Safelog since 2003. The support is great and they truly develop SafeLog all the time. It's very feature rich and continues to grow. I don't mind paying them $50 every 3 years. I think of how much I spend on aviation and $50 is a drop in the bucket. It's the cost of 2...

    Commercial Maneuvers and their purpose?

I was fresh off my IR training when I did my commercial. I was having a difficult time and my instructor reminded me that this rating is *visual* !! Look OUTSIDE, will ya ?!?. That really helped with the mechanical feeling to maneuvers. Lazy 8s are fun once allowed to feel the plane. I...

    Taildraggin'

Another consideration is what the insurance requires. I've seen some places, 5hrs dual before solo. 10hrs to X-C.

    Cross-Country Definition

I've always wonder what does a CFI do when a student gets lost on their solo X-C, but finds an airport and lands there but it's not the one the CFI endorsed. What does a CFI do ? I imagine the call going something like this... "It was real hazy enroute and I flew past Podunk Muni and landed...

    Lake Michigan Water Temp Site

Those of us who scuba dive in the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" monitor the following link: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/Southeast.shtml This time of year, the gulf stream comes close (aka 30nm) to shore. Some of the best diving is only 2hrs away. :-)

    Twin Comanche down in FL

Imagine... smoke in the cockpit... doing your very very best and killing innocents on the ground anyway. Sad for us all, but as pilots it's particularly sad. We do our best every time and still, it's not enough.

    FAA Survey

I took the survey. My FSS experiences have been good. I mainly deal with RDU's AFSS. I really them. I don't sit on hold for long, they know the area and seem to have a sense of humour. Great group, we're fortunate to have them.

    Ground Delays

Did anyone listen to Bob Poole's PODCAST on AvWeb about user-fees ? I found the podcast very informative and Mr. Poole makes an arguement why GA should be supporting user-fees. I traded a couple e-mails with Mr. Poole. He seems reasonable (no pun intended) and well intentioned. He pointed me...
