ACS standards for PPL checkride - how close?

Do what you think is right and explain what you're doing and why. Explanations can go a long way toward giving you forgiveness for minor issues. I've surely benefited from that practice.

who has right of way, backtaxi vs landing aircraft?

If we can assume the CFI was familiar with the airport, he knew there would be a need to back taxi and would plan his pattern accordingly.

Mackinac Island - Stay in St. Ignace?

Talk to the hotel on the island you'd like to stay at. Ask if they're likely to be fully booked. Ask about cancellation policy---often you can cancel day of before a certain hour. Don't shuttle back and forth.

    Lost comms procedure after takeoff

Why did the radios fail? You probably don't know or aren't sure. I'd exercise my emergency authority and descend to VFR conditions, squawking 7600, assuming I was in the flatlands. Not likely to conflict with other IFR traffic at that altitude. Otherwise, I'd begin to fly the cleared route...

IFR when I can't meet SID/ODP climb or MEA?

The ODP for Aspen involves a climb to 16,000 before proceeding on course. Can you do that? If not, no go unless VMC.

    the carbon monoxide indicator thing...

I have read that LOP operation reduces or eliminates the possibility of CO in the exhaust (This is not a joke). It does seem to make sense. Comments, data?

I use SkewTlogPro on my iPhone and really like it. Nothing negative to say about it.

Unique places that you have flown.

I've flown from Texas to Alaska three times and landed at some off-the-beaten-path places there : Bettles, Kotzebue, Nome, McCarthy. Also the dirt strip next to the seaplane base in Cordova.

Is the general public actually going to fly in an EVtol aircraft?

It will be for a small wealthy minority, as helicopters are now.

A slightly different headset comparison question...

I flew with DC H-10-40 (passive) for years and liked them. There may be more comfortable headsets but I got used to them. I upgraded to H10-13x (ANC) and really like them. Again, I am used to the clamping of the DC's. One thing I've noticed about the -13x is the effectiveness of ANC varies...

    CFI lesson plans for purchase

For my CFI oral, I took a few lesson plans along that I had prepared. In the examination I was required to prepare a lesson to teach something (forget what). Expecting a CFI candidate to bring lesson plans for everything he (or she) might be asked to teach, is, IMO, unrealistic. More...

How necessary is iPad GPS for ForeFlight?

I'm a little surprised at this thread. I have a Samsung Galaxy tablet without cellular and its GPS works great. Very accurate. Having said that, I really only use it to follow along on a downloaded sectional chart. I guess I could fly an approach with it in the event of an emergency.

Best performing Android tablet for Garmin Pilot

I run FltPlan Go on a Samsung Tab S2, so my experience may or may not be relevant. From early on I had issues with map zooming. The application would just stop after a little zooming. I could reduce the problem for a while by restarting the device, but it was never really "right". Then...
