    PIREP on personal cooling jackets

I would start with just a neck cooler like this: http://www.amazon.com/Frogg-Togg-Chilly-Pad-Pink/dp/B002JAIKWY The vest work, yes, but being inside a plane with one on? I don't think so...

Video of BBJ go-around on short final

6-7 seconds from when it says "minimums" to when they decide to go missed... Is that normal? I dont fly jets.

    MEA and MOCA?

MOCA will provide obstacle clearance but wont guarantee reception. If you're GPS'in it, it is generally a non-issue. So, the benefit is, you can fly lower than the MEA. For separation, or maybe you want to remain in the IFR system but there is IMC at MEA but clear at MOCA.

    No TFR for Indy 500?

I thought there would be. Or does it fall into the whole "you should know where every sporting event with more then 10,000 people are at"...but even those show up on the TFR map, just with the blanket notice saying you gotta figure out what times they're occurring... eh?

Do I file or scud run?

Depends. We have a agl 1200' tower just north... with guywires going out.. it pokes into the clouds quite often. And he has 2 friends that are 900 and 1100. By the time you see it on some hazy or into-sun days, it could be bad. If no obstacles and familiar with route, hell, fly it at 500'...

Cirrus on eBay seems really cheap..

$100k for plane $50k for engine overhaul $15k for chute repack. So now you have a $165k salvaged composite plane. How is that in line with other 2004 1900-hour Cirrii?

Anyone flown into Wolf Ridge Airport (33NR)

I ended up driving to the cabin instead that weekend... I drove by the "air strip" and WOW, no way I'd land on it. For many reasons it is a horrible idea.

Foreflight internet vs Stratus radar images

Ren, thanks for a useful answer. I know the basic (har har) diffs in base vs composite. Any idea what ATC sees? or can they adjust? Like I would do here: http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=fsd&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no (on top left, reflectivity composite or base)

Foreflight internet vs Stratus radar images

Here they are at the same scale. Maybe I'm crazy, but the one on the right last a ton more green. Lets, for sake of internet argument, say they were at the SAME TIME.

Foreflight internet vs Stratus radar images

Mark, it was consistently different at the same time thru out the flight. Same with the return yesterday. Does anyone know if ADS-B is base or composite? I got this from the FF site:

Foreflight internet vs Stratus radar images

I disagree. Look at the amount of yellow towards the end of the route. The diff in timing was nothing - I just didnt get around to capturing the other screenshot while I was climbing out.

Foreflight internet vs Stratus radar images

Does anyone know which is which in terms of base vs composite? Ipad mini on the stratus and iphone 5 still on 4g showing the same area.. The iphone paints a much worse picture. I am thinking the internet radar is composite radar and the stratus returns are base. Any idea which ATC sees...

    GPS Direct?

With a newly minted IR, I was told by my examiner to always file direct and always know where you are in relation to the ground based navaids (at this point, VORs and NDBs still exist in the midwest!). I've filed direct across Ohio and VA fine... I've filed direct OH over Chicago without much...
