#Rant: Biannual Flight Review instead of Aircraft Checkout?

I agree. This sort of relationship seems dead wrong. I could report it as a bad way of doing things but is there anything technically wrong with their arrangement? It WAS the closest 141 school but recently one popped up half the distance from Charlotte so all the Guard guys are no longer...

#Rant: Biannual Flight Review instead of Aircraft Checkout?

You guys are all correct. I knew better and know its called just a Flight Review. I see more folks call it a BFR than anything. I should have been reading it off the schools script. ;)

#Rant: Biannual Flight Review instead of Aircraft Checkout?

Thats exactly what I thought. I knew it Thats exactly what my club did. It was just general club rules, this is where this is, this is how we do that. Log book and medical review. Then 45 minute flight after a little longer preflight so you knew the plane. Ok, youre safe, competent...

#Rant: Biannual Flight Review instead of Aircraft Checkout?

I absolutely would have asked for that... If I would have known before we were done and walking in. My thoughts too. I should have known it was gonna be a **** show when I came in and not only were their instructors wearing those awesome airline uniforms but their poor students had the same...

#Rant: Biannual Flight Review instead of Aircraft Checkout?

Ok, I'm going to not ****, moan, ***** or complain. But have a bit of a rant and some follow up questions. Has anyone ever gone to a club or flight school to do a checkout so you can rent from them and been told they do a BFR instead of a checkout? I am already part of a club in Charlotte but...

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

Just an update on my flight following questions. I left my home airport on Tuesday (N52- south of Charlotte and under the Bravo). Requested FF to Asheville from CLT departure and they were very accommodating. Leaving Asheville I requested FF from ground controller when requesting taxi and they...

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

Hey all, appreciate the info on flight following AND the entertaining commentary that followed :)

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

Sorry, I'm not IFR rated so this isn't an option. A VFR flight plan could be filled but it is my understanding does not necessarily give me a flight following. It gives search and rescue my expected takeoff and landing times so when I forget to close it, they send CAP out to look for a smoking...

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

Bill, you make a great point that I hadn't considered. I was flying SE right outside the Mode C veil and was probably transitioning from ATL to JAX center. CLT may have been doing me a favor by handing me off to JAX rather than coordinating only to hand me off. Excellent point. I am so used...

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

My thoughts, too. I want to know who's buzzing around me as well!

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

Awesome. That makes it much easier. I'll try and contact the less busy controllers then and leave the Class B folks alone if I can help it :)

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

Ok, so is there someone you would NOT call to request it?

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

Yeah, they are normally all over it and willing to help. Great folks out there. I wasn't fumbling, had it written out so that I could read it off just in case. I think they were just too busy and couldn't accommodate me and kept handing me off.

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

That may have been the case. Charlotte approach/departure is busy. They may have been too busy to deal with my request.

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

Ok, makes sense. Less going on at ground speed zero for the pilot as well. Are you saying you can receive flight following from any controller, be it Tower, Approach, Departure, etc? Looking for proper protocol.

Can we talk about VFR flight following?

Ok, I'll be the dummy and ask about VFR flight following. Its something that really wasn't covered much in my primary training and my Air Force training was all IFR flight planned and never was a factor. So, how do you get VFR flight following? I've read up on it online. I've watched...

    Myrtle Beach flight today

Wasn't aware of that. Lemme check my schedule. Sounds fun! I was leaving there just shortly before then! After my low approach we cruised about halfway down to Charleston on the coast so probably flying in MYR's airspace at the same time. Small world. Thats super cool! My wife was my...

    Myrtle Beach flight today

Flew down to Myrtle Beach today with my mom. It was her first flight in a bug smasher. Had a great time! Nothing special, just 3.8 hours logged between Jaars (N52 - South Charlotte, NC) to Myrtle for a low approach, down the coast, fuel stop at KPHH for cheap gas ($3.99 a gallon) and then...
