    Pan Pan

Given your background I'd bet you're more accustomed to emergency situations than most. I'd like to think I'd have the presence of mind during an emergency to do things like this, but I think I'd probably end up spending 99% of my mental resources just trying to get the plane on the ground in 1...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Why I prefer towered airfields... Yesterday I was enroute to KRZL and as I approached there was traffic using the same runway in opposite directions at the same time. The ILU airplane was inbound repeatedly saying he was landing "RWY 14" (a runway that doesn't exist at KRZL), while the departing...

Best plane for first time plane owner?

I'd say: Cherokee 180 (~80-100k) Cessna 177 (high end of your price range).. both RG and fixed gear versions out there. Piper Arrow (~100-115k) All of those seem like OK options for your mission, despite mentioning you weren't currently considering retracts ;) Skeptical about any 182s you find...

    Lost and found

I sent him a PoA DM at the end of July asking where he was at and didn't hear back... Hoping he'll turn back up!

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

I'm a total newbie with these so forgive my ignorance... Which feature are you referring to on the tube? Are you referring to the faint dark line that bisects the circle the mechanic drew on the tube (pointed at by yellow arrow)? To me the features that look more noticeable (but probably are...

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

Guilty as charged  During summer I rarely check tire pressure if the visual inflation looks OK (hasn't picked up any additional "squat"). But that's something I can start doing regularly. During winter (chicago winters) I check about every 3-4 weeks, since that's the only time I've ever...

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

Gotcha. Curious is there a recurring culprit in your case? This was my first flat away from home, and it'd be pretty rough to have this happen more than once every few years! At least it sounds like you have a workable solution down if it happens more often.

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

Yeah, I *normally* carry a mobile tire inflater. Never had to use it except at my hangar to top off the tires occasionally. Last night I didn't have it. Thankfully David did. We inflated the tire on the ramp and watched for deflation. 25 mins later it was looking quite low again.

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

Ehh it's kind of a joyride, too. If I just wanted cheap gas I could go somewhere closer :) Good to know on the tire pressure getting low as a likely culprit for the mains going flat...

Nose wheel tire flat - unclear why

Trying to figure out what happened... Yesterday I did a flight to go fuel-up at an airport ~40 mins away. I did a preflight and tires all looked good/felt good. Same with landing and post-land taxi. After parking at the self-serve fuel pump for 10 minutes I come back out and the nose wheel tire...

You know you're in a bad neighborhood when you fall asleep on the FBO couch and wake up next morning to see your plane is on blocks. (Flat tire fix)

    Midwest POA Breakfast Meetup Thread

Last minute, but anyone wanna do a brunch run tomorrow? Haven't flown since getting back from 6Y9'er and I've got the itch, and TAF's look good in every direction. Left to my own devices I'll likely end up at KJXN "The Apron Restaurant & Spirits"

    Egregious FBO charges

Generally agree in principle. But... In my experience there's also a lot of revolving door of staff at a lot of FBOs and they can't answer questions correctly. They'll say whatever to keep you moving. In the last year I have two instances where my bill deviated significantly from what was...

There are 101 public airports in Illinois...

Pretty bad ass you've hit them all! Over the last 4y I've probably hit about 20 in IL, max. Do you.. by chance.. have a picture from your landing at KDTG? :) Curious how that was in the Lance.

    I’m calling the peak

I get it. There's no guarantee the price drops in a year anywho, so you're taking a gamble either way. There's also a non-financial cost to deferring ownership, mainly delayed trips/memory building (esp if you have family or are older). Sometimes that takes precedence over the financial aspect...
