My kitty cat is in chronic renal failure

Elizabeth, Sorry to hear about your kitty and hope that she does better as long as possible. We had a couple of brothers with the same problem and it was sad to watch them lose their energy. The vet told us that it was not painful but my wife and I could see the slow slide. Eventually, about a...

What Wireless Router Do You Use?

I had a Linksys WRT54G (removeable antennas) for several years. It eventually bit the dust. Bought another. Bad deal as it was not half the router the previous one was, power-wise and quality - and non-removeable antennas. I started reading reviews and found that the WRT54GL (linux based) was...

Swap Spark Plug Locations To Equalize Wear

From Aircraft Spruce, regular spark plugs are about $25 each, fine wire about $75 each. You have 8 for a 4cyl engine, 12 for a 6cyl engine, so yes, they are much more expensive than automotive plugs. Many (most?) people clean and regap them until the center electrodes are out of tolerance. Have...

    Back to OSX

Not the OP, but yes, Ubuntu Linux. Except for some specialty programs I use for business which require Windows, it does just about everything I want. Office software (Open Office), picture and video download and editing. Networking. Printing (except Lexmark). Some simple games. Internet (Firefox...

time lapse video of Olympic Mts, Puget Sound cloud activity

Right-click on the link and save to your hard drive. Then try playing it. It looks like it will take about 4 minutes to dl to my computer via DSL.

    Desktop dead

I had a similar problem spontaneously rebooting with a generic PC about 5 years old. It had an ASUS motherboard and I had installed the ASUS monitoring program running. I noticed that one of the monitored voltages was low - well outside normal operating limits. I replaced the power supply, about...

My kitty cat is in chronic renal failure

Elizabeth, Sorry to hear of your cat. We had 2 littermates that we got when our kids were in elementary school. Jeffery and Turbo were with us for 18 and 19 years - longer than our kids - and both had kidney failure late in life. We eventually had to put them to sleep as we could do nothing...

    Poll: Upgrade ELT?

My ELT (Sharc6) was falling apart and I didn't think it would survive another battery change. I upgraded to a ME-406. Hopefully, the price of the 5 year battery will come down.

    Ham Radio

I stand somewhat corrected. As of April 2000, no new Novice licenses are being issued, but valid Novice licenses at that time can be renewed indefinitely. http://www2.hawaii.edu/~rtoyama/hamclass.html I believe the basic entry license now is the Technician class.

    Ham Radio

There's no listing for WD9BLY in the FCC database so it's still available if you want to start up again. Your novice license would have expired, of course. Courtesy http://www.qrz.com

    Ham Radio

I can see where my wife flies! But she won't let me put one in her car  The tracker is just a position transmitter - gps / position encoder / small ham radio on 144.39 Mhz. Many hams have them in their cars. The home systems receive the radio signal and turn it into a position on a map on...

    Ham Radio

WB7DDL here, licensed for about 35 years. I have an APRS tracker in my plane which shows up on the internet and other ham's computers much like Capstone. Location: http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=wb7ddl-7 Tracks...

How old were you when you pursued the dream?

55, and I wish I had done it 35 years before when I could have done it for practically nothing. My wife started a couple of months later, same age. Gee, we're a couple of the old ones so far!

    What's "good moral character"?

I remember a quote that said essentially "Character is what you do when no one is watching". Here's a start - according to the INS. http://careers.findlaw.com/firmsite/attachments/LE6_c_checklist_WhatIsGoodMoralCharacter.pdf Wikipedia simply cites the same items. However, oysters can...

    Memorial Day thanks

Not to put a wet blanket on the sentiments, but Memorial Day is to honor those who have died in the service to their country. Hopefully, those posting here and reading are still very much alive. I believe you are thinking of Veteran's Day, but any day is suitable to thank Vets! Tyler

    Be Careful in UTAH! N/A

There is NO WAY that guy is holding 97 lbs of snake at the end of a 3 foot grabber! I'd think he'd even be showing some strain with a 20 lb snake. Still, it looks like a pretty good sized one, wherever it is.

I had a crash, but I am OK. (no Video)

Sorry to hear about your crash, Bob, although I don't understand the "hard rubber tire" bit. Hardened from age and split? When I was going to OSU, I rode with no protection - it was not the norm then. Now I'm older and falling off a bike has more consequences. I wear a bicycle helmet and...

    laptop running out of space

Burn the photos onto CDs or DVDs. Verify they got there. Erase from hard drive. Problem solved for a few dollars, assuming you have a fairly recent laptop. Use the money you saved to finish up your PPL :-)
