    Boeing Studies Pilotless Next Jetliner

I was a contractor for a large defense company. Lot of ex Navy, ex Air Force, ex Army and ex Intel guys. A main focus was essentially air, land, and sea, battlefield situational technology, etc . This was about seven or eight years ago, and that is the direction they were going. It seemed...

When to buy your own plane?

IMHO, the M20 series is the best bang for the buck, especially the M20J/201.

help me think thru the details of this proposed flight?

Greg, I am sorry to hear that. I think the stress, and hassle of lifting her into an airplane may not be worth the time you save. Plus, then you need to find transport to the new nursing home anyway. If you have a vehicle to accommodate her, I would probably drive, or rent something suitable.

    Boeing Studies Pilotless Next Jetliner

That seems to be where it is going. I can understand not wanting to risk human lives, but then what is the motivation for avoiding war? I guess the risk of your "assets" getting damaged would be the risk, plus civilian losses, and property losses, but still.

Warfare will be automated at some point also. It's a bit scary.

For Sale Anyone looking for a GOAT?

I was never a big muscle car guy even in the era, but I still appreciate them. My cousin had a GTO, and it was a BEAST.

Nothing beats eggs & Spam for Breakfast

I guess from trying to eat a lower sodium diet, a lot of things taste saltier to me now.

When to buy your own plane?

I would certainly put the OP in the ownership category with a $4K per month spend. You could have a nice, travelling aircraft for half that per month depending on age/condition/model, etc.

Nothing beats eggs & Spam for Breakfast

I prefer Scrapple to SPAM. Even the lower sodium SPAM tastes way to salty for me.

Good and bad of ATC Privatization

I see this more, and more for both recurring, and non-recurring "fees". It is an easy way to raise revenue for essential vehicle registrations, inspections, permits, tolls, services, energy, phone, etc.

    Motorcycle Radio

I had a 1978 Triumph Bonneville 750 that I bought slightly used with very low mileage in 1980. I had that bike for a long time, and it never stuck me. Normal maintenance, and it never failed to start, or run. It was a beautiful bike. Yes, I've heard the stories also, but I guess I got a good...

    Meat Vending Machine.....

A lot of places aren't NYC. There are NO taxicabs available in my area. NONE. I once had my car break down, but was able to nurse it to my maintenance shop which is about three miles from my home. This was before Uber/Lyft existed. There was nobody available at the maintenance shop to run...

    New Tom Cruise Top Gun

I was never a fan of the original Top Gun movie, nor Tom Cruise. Some of the flying scenes were pretty cool though. CGI is a pet peeve of mine, and I just can't stand the use of it. Hollywood seems to be obsessed with CGI, so I watch less, and less.

Prebuy next 2 days - help me with cold feet

Find a good A&P/IA that you can TRUST, and it becomes a lot easier. However, those "gotcha" annuals, or non-planned repairs can kill that $1K/month budget in a heartbeat as others have said. I had a $21K annual once, and I think the mechanic I took it to (changed mechanics because I moved)...

Hmmmm, maybe that was the same one they used in "Goldfinger". :)

    I am in love...

Yep! I have a good friend, also a pilot/aircraft owner, that has to name practically every inanimate object he has. Cars, plane, boats (well that's OK). Usually with very ghey sounding names, but that's fine, as long as he's happy. :)

    We lost an iconic spy

Yes, the Fireman. There is only one James Bond, and that is Sean Connery. All others are pikers! Moore was good as "the Saint".
