    Holding the Brakes

Wait. Is that what that handle is for? There are three things I was taught (and teach) to never trust in a piston plane: heater, parking brake, gas gauges. To the OP: If they don't give a crap about their equipment, such as fixing an obviously inop parking brake, then why should you give a...

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

Yearly ethics training was still very much a thing when I left the company in 2022. 99% of the employees could never get into a position where any of it applied to them.

    Looking to build an airplane

OP, What skill sets do you bring to the table? When your car needs service do you reach for your tool box or your checkbook? The people who say experimental is not cheaper are the checkbook people. You said you want FADEC. I'm assuming you've hooked your laptop up to the family car, can...

    Am I being unreasonable?

In the PC-12 we retract flaps on roll out to increase braking. We go into some short runways. You also have to operate the thrust lever (beta) and move the condition lever to ground idle, all while still rolling down the runway. You would have to be a complete dumb a** to get the gear lever in...

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

Spirit builds the empty cigar, with windows and doors installed. I can confirm that it has no insulation when it arrives in Renton. That's stuff is installed on the first "flow day". Spirit's contribution is nothing like 70%. I also wouldn't call them a sock puppet. Boeing sold off the...

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

Any "upfitting" generally takes place during final assembly. The only exceptions I recall are BBJ and military variants. I don't recall AS getting anything crazy installed in their aircraft that would require going somewhere else to have it installed, and certainly not side wall lining panels...

    Magnetic Compass

I fly PC-12 NGs (older plane for those not aware). Some have a compass, some do not. All you have to do to screw up a compass is put any of the following in top of the panel: iPad Phone Headset

Using ADS-B to clear practice area

There is a LOT of lag in ADS-B signal. If you're doing aerobatic maneuvers don't be surprised when it constantly alerts you to your own aircraft

That is a "mid exit door", required for seat pitches that result in a passenger count above a certain threshold. Tight pitch equals more butts, so you need more doors to get those butts out of the plane. As someone else stated, it's possible to order the aircraft in a configuration that retains...

How do you talk to a car mechanic…

Horse s***. An EV still has brakes, wheel bearings, suspension, differentials, gear boxes, wipers, heater fans, a/c, conventional lighting different, and the electric motor itself is not infallible. They are anything but maintenance free

Somewhere north of 800. I'm way behind on my paper logbook and not looking forward to catching it up.

    Ercoupe crash: Fitzgerald, GA

Sadly it's very normal behavior. First time I saw it was when I and one other person saved two kids from drowning while at least 50 others stood on the beach gawking. That was the late 80s, pre cell phone days. I've stopped for numerous car accidents since then and seen it pretty much every time.

The 2019 Hawaii Crash and The “Bad Flight Instructor”

I've always cringed at the CAF use of ranks. My dad and I had our differences but he earned the rank of Colonel, he didn't rent it for $225/yr. His rank was paid for with his own blood and that of his closest friends. Sorry for the thread drift. This one has been pretty entertaining.

Wild IFR question that popped in my head...

You're in IMC. How would you see the other traffic at 12 o'clock and 700'? If you're counting on ADS-B, don't. It has so much lag that if it shows 700', you have already exchanged paint with the other plane
