The recreational drone altitude limit set by the FAA is 400ft AGL. Commercial operators can request higher.

I think the issue is most kits are built around specific engines, the kit manufacturers develop FWF packages for them and many of the kit manufacturers have an OEM relationship with those engine manufacturers. Anecdotally the majority of builders tend to accept the kit manufacturers recommended...

I know, but in my experience that's not a panacea for me. I prefer not to bother anymore. I just file what I want and fly what I get--easy peezy.

This. As far as I know iFR time doesn’t count for anything unless is actual or simulated IMC. I mean who gives a crap how much IFR time in VMC you have? 61.57 sure doesn’t.
