New Lycoming AD for connecting rod assemblies

One exception—if you can fly with a non-certified, experimental engine (which I can) it can be rebuilt by a builder and zero timed with a new data tag.

New Lycoming AD for connecting rod assemblies

My engine builder provided me a list of the parts they used when they rebuilt my engine off an old core as part of my documentation packet. 4 of my 6 connecting rod assemblies fall squarely in the date range. 2 are outside the range as they were replaced later during a tear down after an...

New Lycoming AD for connecting rod assemblies

Absolutely—I just broke open my engine log to verify the part numbers and I’ve got affected parts in the date range on my IO-540.

New Lycoming AD for connecting rod assemblies

I’m gonna rely on my oil analysis as the primary indicator backed up by visual on the filter and screen, which is what I do anyway on all of my oil changes. I start to see a spike then I’m gonna call my engine builder, BPE, and get further advice.

    PSRU recommendations?

If you balk at that you are are gonna have an aneurysm if you pursue this further. I own a boat (25ft center console bay boat) and a plane I built (RV-10) and ain’t nothing cheap in either pursuit.

    Florida in Crosshairs Again…. Milton

So the friend we're staying with back in Apollo Beach made a quick walk around of our house and boat and it looks like there's no additional damage from Milton. However there's no power so we're staying put in Orlando until Friday morning. As for my hangar I’m reasonably confident it’s fine too...

    Florida in Crosshairs Again…. Milton

Landfall was 5 miles west of Siesta Key which is basically Sarasota.

    Florida in Crosshairs Again…. Milton

Yeah we’ve been watching it closely. We’re definitely dodging the surge bullet. Now it’s all about the winds, I’m especially worried about our roof.

    Florida in Crosshairs Again…. Milton

The Tampa metro area is gonna see much higher than that regardless of final landfall guaranteed.

    Florida in Crosshairs Again…. Milton

I was busy dealing with a flooded house and pretty much lost everything so forgive me if I think your opinion is f’ng worthless as I was spending every waking moment dealing with that and not toys. It’s called prioritization.

    Florida in Crosshairs Again…. Milton

Easy—We live in a drinking village with a boating problem.

    Florida in Crosshairs Again…. Milton

Yeah well some of us had more pressing tasks than repositioning toys. Sorry my poor decisions impacted your premiums. Oh and BTW car insurance premiums, which was the example, here in FL are more affected by demographics and the fact we’re a no fault state than storm losses. Homeowners and...

    Florida in Crosshairs Again…. Milton

Sigh. We live at the blue dot and got about 2-1/2 ft of water in our house from Helene. Anther storm surge won’t do much as the damage has been done. Everyone’s front yard near the water looks like ours: So now the concern is hurricane force winds blowing all of this debris around. Everyone...

    Planes and hurricanes

No big picture changes. Some miner ones on how and where we store stuff, but that’s about it. We understand the risks of living on the water. We have lots of temp housing options to get us through the point where we can reoccupy the house. Right now it’s a bit overwhelming and it’s draining...

    Planes and hurricanes

So my plane (and all my other toys) survived without issue. Our house unfortunately is trashed. We estimate we had 3-4 ft of water throughout. I’ve already filed an insurance claim and the cleanup begins today once we get back from checking on the hangar/plane. It will be sometime before the...

    Planes and hurricanes

For some. We won’t be in the clear from storm surge until around 2AM. The attached pic was from about 19:15 or roughly 45 min from this post. The water has encroached about 2 feet more into our backyard since I took that pic.

    Planes and hurricanes

Our evac plan is to go just far enough inland to get us out of the flood zone with both vehicles, both motorcycles, and some priority possessions. Generally speaking, you don't have to go far or use the Interstate to get out of harms way (born in Baton Rouge, grew up in Lower Alabama, been the...

    Planes and hurricanes

I drive thru Gibtown on 41 to and from MacDill M-F. As I posted above I've written off my plane in this scenario. Ironically between the plane, my house and my boat, the boat is most likely to survive as it sits on a lift and I can raise it above all but the worst surge levels. Our plan is to...
