Things you never want to hear...

On a xc last year I got "Cherokee 123 immediate climb for traffic separation". Pretty sure I was climbing before he stopped speaking. First and only time I have heard that. It definetly got my attention never saw the traffic

    Reasonable Cirrus rate

Yep. But I guess it seems a bargain since 10 hours in an SR 22 will set you back $4995! Instructor rates are $70/hour. It's a shame, I was really excited about finally having a rental cirrus nearby until I made that phone call. :(

    Reasonable Cirrus rate

Local airport has a new SR 20 that they use for transition training. 10 hours will cost you $3995. But that includes the instructor ;)

    House of Cards effect

True. I felt worse for Freddie than I did any of the characters that died or went to jail. He was the one real person in the show to me.

    Newbie, First Question

I wouldn't stress about it. As others have said it will become second nature quickly and you will look back and wonder what the big deal was.

VFR to Orlando in late April?

The closest airport to is is Greenville Spartanburg which is about a 45 min drive. We could drive to Atlanta (2hours) or Charlotte (2hours) and the tickets would be cheaper and nonstop. But let's face it, what's the fun in that?! Tickets out of GSP are currently about $950 for my wife and I...

VFR to Orlando in late April?

Yeah the weather today has been miserable. Spent 5 miserable hours in the heart of the rain driving between the South Carolina coast and Clemson. Thanks for all the great advise. I'm really looking forward to this trip now. I will watch the weather closely and keep plenty of outs.

VFR to Orlando in late April?

Luckily I have to try and keep up with my wife fitness wise so we fit fine in a warrior and the mother in law may be 130lbs soaking wet.

VFR to Orlando in late April?

Thanks for the replies. I'll take the day Friday to give us more time/flexibility traveling down. I'll also brief everyone that if we have to we will land and rent a car for the rest of the trip. How are the moa's in southern Georgia and northern Florida? Should I plan on being vectored...

VFR to Orlando in late April?

Unfortunately the flight down on Friday will have to be afternoon after work unless we take the day off. The return trip will be flexible on when to leave.

VFR to Orlando in late April?

My wife and I have a wedding in the Orlando area at the end of April. Right now airline tickets are almost $500/person from our closest airport and they all go through Atlanta. No direct flights. So we would be looking at at least a 5 hour travel day not including driving to the airport...

    PPL training schedule sanity check

Two hours doing ground reference or pattern work during the summer sounds like torture to me. The most I did was 1.4 (excluding cross country) and I was wiped out. I fly in the south though so ymmv.

Student Pilot - Video of Long Cross Country to Santa Barbara

Looks like a fun plane to fly and a fun area to fly in!

    Life insurance and the Pilot

I hadn't started training when I got my policy from ING. When I did start training I checked and they still cover me. Think it would have been a different story if I had already been flying at the time I got the policy.

    other flying paranoias

I hate having traffic called out on the Zaon and never finding it. Unnerves me.

    Flying down to KAUS (Bergstrom)

On an unrelated note, KAUS is my favorite station on LiveATC. Great mix of GA and heavy iron and the frequency stays busy most nice weather days.

    How many of you guys....

One of the controllers at GMU will over emphasize and say nine-ER if the pilot only says nine. "Greenville tower Cessna 123xx ready for takeoff runway one nine. Cessna 123xx cleared for take off runway one nine-ER."
