Touch & goes or stop & go?

This is what happens when the FBO puts up a suggestion box for employees.

Touch & goes or stop & go?

Didn't when I did it. Just checking, you did know it was made tounge in cheek?

    VOR Only Instrument Flying

This was routine for Army Huey pilots. Try holding at a two radial intersection with only one VOR/LOC. The fuel gauge seems to grow to the size of a wall clock when in the klag. Army pilots have fast hands. Back in the Nam, it was done with ADF because Hueys didn't have TACAN.

    VOR Only Instrument Flying

A pilot that I knew told me of flying a USAF B-57 solo transcontinental with only an ADF. I assume that it was in "A" airspace.

Touch & goes or stop & go?

What is the guidance for the time period (stopped in the middle of the active runway) for re-warming up the engine? A possible technique would be to never reduce power to less than 50% while braking to a stop.

    In-flight turbulence phobias?

You will not get over it. Even when your total time has four zeros. You will, however, learn to avoid most of it.

    AATD simulator for Night Currency?

I did it once at my annual Flight Safety re-cur training. I was out of night qual due to scheduling issues. The first bad omen was that the sim operator was from our training dept. (Flight Safety let us do it because we were a good customer.) Norm and I had a history in the cockpit together over...

    Wanna buy a 747

I'm kicking the tires on a pair in the local area. I did have my heart set on a B-36.

What's your go-to Concealed Carry weapon?

May I recommend A Bursa Thunder CC in .380. It sure looks like a direct copy of the Walther PPK by the Argentinas at a fraction of the price. And its 8 rds.

What's your go-to Concealed Carry weapon?

Springfield Hellcat in "size nine" for FL summers. I'm a vet of one conflict with USMC and one with the Army. A town cop in between. Two shootings as a cop where I didn't fire a shot. I carry a 1911 in cold weather in a under arm shoulder holster. Holdover from my Army experience in the cockpit...

Flying airplane with missing cowl flap

As we know, 135 (&121) is allowed to make rules MORE stringent but not less than the FARS. I had a copilot who was also a freelance A&P when he was off schedule. He told me of getting called out one night for a 121 air carrier that had a minor glitch and MELed it. Their maint was not available...

Flying airplane with missing cowl flap

Noted. There are practical reasons why you may limit the flight to the minimum. The ones that I flew were usually in a "sick" aircraft and were to the nearest maint facility. I have seen all kinds of flights on a ferry permit that make me do a double take. Example, A Sikorsky S-76 looses an...

Flying airplane with missing cowl flap

Just asking. How about a ferry permit? If necessary, at reduced power. I don't know how far you have to go. Many of us have used a permit to get to the nearest maint base. I'm not talking trans-continental of course.

    Mil Airshow Airplanes & Software

The German Army did performances with their military Bolkow 105s. Flown by a Sergeant who did a routine similar to the Red Bull's. Actually, it was a pair of 105s They both had identical markings to include tail numbers. They were swapped out between performances so that an ultra-microscopic...

    Mil Airshow Airplanes & Software

According to an article in the local P'cola News Journal, they do. The article was printed shortly before the B.A.s received their new Super Hornets. I recall that there were some software and hardware alterations. Recently, the Blues received another Super Hornet that was in the shooting of...

Dumb questions from someone who doesn't fly... but writes about it.

I believe that it has been done. Barry Seale, played by Tom Cruise in the 2017 movie "American made" is shown in a scene inbound to Arkansas via the US gulf coast in an Aerostar. He is being chased by the Narcs and he has a load of contraband that he needs to get rid of. He is solo and climbs in...

    You know you’re getting old….

You know you're old when you still don't trust a weather forecast made before 0700. The "wind sniffers" used to do them old school before computers were widespread.

Aircraft with 180 hp conversions vs. their counterparts

I used to fly both a 1972 CE 172 and a military T-41B within an hour of each other. T.O. climb & cruise were pretty close. As you know, the T-41B is a 172 with a heavier TCM IO-360, heavier c.s. prop and 7.00 x 7 mlg wheels. I swear that I could feel the heavier engine and prop in the landing...
