    Why stall it?

Oh yes of course, when I mention compare, that is with making adjustments for all the large and small details and at some point, adjustments cannot be made because they are so different. Thrust reversers and spoilers are 2 things that throw the comparison out the window.

    Why stall it?

Sorry for misleading you. Let me try to avoid confusing this any further because I try my best to avoid passing on bad info. In the first landing, the extra 2000 foot landing distance is due to bleeding off the excess airspeed in the flare. The airplane actually flies 2000 feet farther, then...

    Why stall it?

Oh I edited my post to state that the chart DOES include the use of thrust reversers. So it can't be compared directly to GA planes.

    Why stall it?

This is all that I could find on the matter. Keep in mind that the extra distances vary by type and this chart was developed by Boeing for their airliners. Maybe someone can comment on how we can translate it to GA airplanes on a percentage basis. I found it in "Professional Pilot : Proven...

    Why stall it?

I'm doing 60 over the fence. 80 is almost as fast as pattern speed in my 152. 80 over the fence would be nuts and I assume, float quite a bit. Since my plane cruises at 95, the difference in feel between 60 and 80 is very large. Maybe if you're in a plane that cruises at 160, the the...

    Finally got the ticket wet

Must be a nice feeling to finally apply what you have worked hard for. And to nail it first time around, congrats man!

    Why stall it?

Since we're talking about the dangers and benefits of different approach speeds, compared to a normal approach, whats the most you have increased your approach speed due to heavy icing conditions?

Do you ever freak out in the air?

You could pop the door open and cinch down the harness right before any off airport landing.

SFO bay tour or close to it

Oh, I thought it was renamed. Didn't realize that was a completely different venue. I'm a true noob to the area even though I've been living here forever, lol.

Do you ever freak out in the air?

Never freaked out but I did get startled one time. I was practicing a soft field takeoff and tried for the first time to combine it with a crosswind correction full lock. I was expecting to straighten the yoke right before my usual 50 knots rotation speed. Of course the plane actually lifted...

SFO bay tour or close to it

All I can say is woo-hoo! Just got home not too long ago and it was an amazing experience as a pilot. Flew up north to SFO, received the Bravo transition and made a couple laps of Alcatraz and the Stadium. The clouds were covering much of the Golden Gate and extended to about the Tower...

SFO bay tour or close to it

Or since I am already on Flight Following, I don't even worry about it because I have already "established contact"?

SFO bay tour or close to it

Just a quick question. How do you fly over the city flying north? If I get a Bravo clearance remaining south and west of 101 at or below 2000, it looks like I'll need to overfly San Francisco at at least 1600 MSL. That would put me in Oakland's Charlie airspace. Do I ask the SFO tower for a...

SFO bay tour or close to it

Thanks for all the great insights. We are probably going to leave at 2pm now due to maintenance reasons. Maybe that is a blessing in disguise considering its going to be 100 degrees tomorrow. I am probably going to just do the Bravo transition for this trip. As tempting as the Oakland...

SFO bay tour or close to it

I am scheduled to fly this Tuesday in the baking heat. We are planning to leave KRHV around 4pm to avoid the worst of it. I wanted to get your opinion on my route. Here is the route we are planning: https://skyvector.com/?ll=37.72437819837992,-122.45220133459259&chart=127&zoom=6&fpl= KRHV...

Is my instructor right for me?

Its crazy. To solo, especially away from the airport, you need to have all the skills in place that you would need as a regular PPL. They just won't be as good or fine tuned at that point but the skill set needs to be complete because anything that can happen to a regular private pilot can...

Is my instructor right for me?

My PPL instructor was a real hard-ass. He was always distracting me, throwing different situations into the mix and making me do 4 or 5 things at once. The moment I got comfortable with something, felt I had turned the corner, and thought I could really do this aviation thing...

Is my instructor right for me?

Oh I didn't mean landing them cold. I meant if you could learn to successfully land a 152, it would be a relatively easy transition to learn to land any other GA or commercial airplane, excluding tailwheels.

Is my instructor right for me?

Is there any merit to the statement that if you can land a 152, you can land anything?
