    PA-38-112 Tomahawk - Tips?

I got checked out in a DA20 (T-tail) once, so I was prepared for the authority issue.

    PA-38-112 Tomahawk - Tips?

Hello, I have 102 hours total time logged in mainly Cessna 150/152/172 aircraft with some time in a Piper J4 and I did my PPL night training in a Warrior. The club I am in has a Tomahawk and I was intending on doing my BFR/checkout in it. Having never flown a PA-38-112, what would someone...

    Hardest Test Questions

I always joke that getting a perfect score on the knowledge test was my "Finest moment in aviation", but I almost didn't get a perfect score - why? Because for the life of me, I could not remember how high to fly above a wildlife sanctuary! Seriously, I spent like 10 minutes on that one...

Engine out road landing in Sangar TX

Am I the only one who thought it interesting when I scrolled down to the bottom of the story on the NBC website linked above and saw this additional (clickable) headline entitled: "Crash Splits Car in Two in Arlington Monday"

Asking passengers to sign a waiver?

I agree 110%! What I meant by the Christian comment was that if they are Christians that "walk the walk", I find they are calmer than others. I attribute this to the fact that they may have said to themselves, "If I die, at least I will get to meet Jesus". My level of hesitance with...

Asking passengers to sign a waiver?

As a low-time pilot who is not married and has no one depending on me, I do feel more hesitant about taking a passenger who is the sole breadwinner for a family. Call me pessimistic, but if in the rare event that an off-airport landing results in the fatality of my passenger and not me, I would...

Asking passengers to sign a waiver?

For what it's worth, I either have my passenger(s) fill out my one-page waiver in the car on the way (assuming they are riding with me to the airport), or near my car (in the parking lot at the airport). I have it on a clipboard with a pen and everything ready-to-go and just leave it in my car...

    Aviation family?

First and only for myself. Actually got interested in flying aircraft in high school, when my brother found a National Geographic that talked about ultralights. My brother thought the idea of owning a cheap flying thing that you could land on a road and taxi to a gas station to fill up was...

Renegotiating Monthly Dues (Non-Equity Flying Club)

Thanks again everyone. I've had now 10 people on this forum say that it's a good deal and it's not overly high monthly dues.

Renegotiating Monthly Dues (Non-Equity Flying Club)

No IFR GPS or weather. The 172 is insured for 50K.

Renegotiating Monthly Dues (Non-Equity Flying Club)

Wow, I had no idea the yearly expenses could be that high. This is the sort of insight I was looking for. Thanks!

Renegotiating Monthly Dues (Non-Equity Flying Club)

Yes, technically members are "Leasees" and the owner certainly is making profit from the arrangement. Most clubs seem to be non-profit, so I'm guessing that this is a unique situation?

Renegotiating Monthly Dues (Non-Equity Flying Club)

The owner of the airplane owns the airport, so no hangar/tie down expenses. And yes, if the owner opened the accounting books to the members, it would clear up all of my questions. Not sure what you mean by the cost of billing, but the scheduling uses a free website. Realistically, the...

Renegotiating Monthly Dues (Non-Equity Flying Club)

Thank you for the prompt replies everyone! I am certainly not jealous of the airplane owner and actually have great respect for him. It sounds like maybe I was economically off-base regarding the monthly costs of a non-equity club. Plan "B" is to donate plasma to offset the cost of flying...

Renegotiating Monthly Dues (Non-Equity Flying Club)

Hello fellow pilots! I was wondering if anyone has successfully renegotiated monthly club dues in the DOWNWARD direction. I am in a non-equity club that is one year old and comprises 4 pilots that fly a 172N. The owner technically could fly the plane as well, but typically does not. The...

    Potential Partnership - Thoughts/Advice?

Ah, OK. That makes sense. I just wanted to make certain there wasn't something unique to a Super Cub that I was missing. Thanks!

    Potential Partnership - Thoughts/Advice?

I couldn't agree more. In fact, one member mentioned how they paid something like $1250 when the engine needed an overhaul. I am curious though... Are you implying that Super Cubs need unexpected engine replacements more than other aircraft?

    Potential Partnership - Thoughts/Advice?

I couldn't agree more. I will devise the best way to ask the treasurer about the asset valuation at the right time. Thank you for your insights. They are most appreciated.

    Potential Partnership - Thoughts/Advice?

Are you allowed to receive instruction in the plane ? - They just modified the bylaws, so that student pilots could be members Is there an engine overhaul/fabric reserve in place ? - The excess money from the dues and hourly rate goes into a "maintenance fund", but I currently do not know any...

    Potential Partnership - Thoughts/Advice?

Thank you for the reply! I am a bit confused what you meant exactly when you said what you did about "Diminishing returns"?
