Do FBOs charge multiple landing fees?

It is fairly analogous to either a parking garage or a toll road. Neither of which have I ever experienced not knowing the fee structure, clearly, and upfront. I may not agree with the fees, but that is a separate argument. And one that I can have internally, while I still have the choice on...

    Thinking about a Bulldozer and/or Backhoe/Excavator

I'll echo some previous comments based on my experience. Currently have a D3 on the job site for keeping roads dressed up that is shockingly inept at any big jobs... More of a fine grade machine. And that's too big for your trailer. I'd think if you could swing the biggest mini-ex you could...

    Follow the magenta line....

Fun story about right where he's stuck: the pavement just ends in sand, as he's beautifully illustrated... But the thing is, the sand gets blown back onto the pavement for some distance, so you end up with pavement that's hidden under some depth of sand for the first 20 yards or so going onto...

Trig functions & Private Pilot Test

My granddad just gave me one of his Curta's. Said I was the only one he trusted not to toss it in the trash when he died. Ever use one of those?

Is this about the dumbest thing you've ever seen?

Job I'm working on right now has two ~ 90'w x 100'h doors. They have backup handles just like yours, only bigger. We laughed at the thought of the poor maintenance man who draws the short straw and has to climb the 120' vertically of either stairs or caged ladders to get to the catwalk over the...

    Flying around Norfolk...

Could also slide over to the eastern shore (across Chesapeake Bay). I'm based at MFV. Pretty short flight, and especially out over the barrier islands some very pretty scenery. (and I've been on the runway at Fentress...but in an RX7. No clue if they still do it, but ~2004 I autocross'd there)

    NC airports

Be aware that that 25 miles might be more like 1+ hours. I lived at the 8.5 milepost, right near line between KDH and Nags Head, and a housemate worked up in Duck. It sometimes took her over an hour to make it in to work (Saturday's). I'm surprised the pine island strip doesn't have at least a...

an airman's personal statement and events of his DUI

I have a few commercial flights coming up... Which means I'll have time to kill. I'm going to endeavor to find some scholarly articles on the subject. With the number of people making assertions that 0.15 BAC while walking and talking = tolerance, period, full stop, every time...surely PubMed...

Why is there a metric ton of military aircraft up right now??

I'd guess on a standard day I see no less than 2 or three dozen military aircraft in the air. Would feel strange not to. I work near Langley, drive right past both Norfolk Naval and Little Creek on the way home, and live under what appears to be training routes for mh53's, mh60's, and e2's...

Is there a similar view/feature in forefight to what you posted from Garmin pilot? That's pretty nifty.

I think I lost at least 1 cabin in the Great "Smoky" Mountains...

Hell of a foundation wall there. I get a kick out of residential guys complete ignorance or disregard for OSHA regs, and for the most part it appears OSHA takes a similar view of residential guys... But in the commercial/industrial world there'd be citations written for a fraction of what you...

    A question for the engineers...

Do some structural guys work on "per piece of reinforcing steel shown" contract structure? If so, we have one on my current project. We're starting a pour in a few hours that has 3 mats of #9's on 12" centers both ways, and some sections have a bunch of #12 bars. Embedded in the pour are a...

    A question for the engineers...

Or as Sac alluded to, broaden the range of disciplines, if he hasn't already. Civil, structural, etc open up jobs in the construction industry. I work for a construction management firm and we've got lots of ME and CE on the payroll. Few go on to get their stamp, which is unfortunate...

Why are females never to blame for anything?

My wife is one of four daughters, her mom has two master's, one sister with a master's, one sister a PhD, wife has MD. My father in law claims he's losing his hearing... But I'm on to him. He's had years of never being right, so now he just acts like he can't hear them. It's a plausible excuse...

This Week On POA. / As the Propeller Turns. Season 2 Episode 2

I'm Ryan (with a y), originally slated to be Bryan (with a y) until my dad intervened (while I was still baking) and said "he'll always be correcting the spelling... Let's just drop the B".

This Week On POA. / As the Propeller Turns. Season 2 Episode 2

Barely related aside: went to Nashville for a bachelor party last weekend. Early in the evening make the acquaintance of a girl who introduced herself as "Lindsey with an E". Immediately wondered if 6PC had a twenty something daughter in Nashville.

Really big motor yachts... something Ted might think about

My biggest boat to date was a 30' twin inboard express. A trip to the gulf stream from VB and back was ~$1k. You can buy a lot of tuna for $1k. (At least that's what my wife used to tell me. I prefer trying to catch it.)
