    Small plane down in NJ

I took my CFI and commercial check rides in this plane 6 months ago Sad to see From what I heard, the engine was just overhauled. So the two obvious things that everyone on the field is speculating is either the overhaul company messed up, or the mechanic installed the engine incorrectly...

What is the flight from Florida to the Bahamas like in a single engine?

What I basically did was circle around over land to get pretty high, then crossed the ocean. It at least gave me a greater margin of making it back to land, should an engine failure occur.

    Good rental at FRG (Farmingdale)?

Hahah trained out of Ventura for PPL and then had enough as well, and I definitely hear you. Positive Rate Gear Up has decent pricing with two archers. One of them have a working autopilot. PS- I probably know which plane you had an issue starting haha. Had the same issue when I brought that...

    GTX 345 panel

Flightstream 210 is needed if you plan to transfer your flight plans between ForeFlight and your Garmin GPS GTX 345 includes flightstream 110 which only transfers traffic, weather, and a couple of other small things to your ForeFlight

    2016 year in review

In 2016 I passed my IR check ride, commercial, CFI, and CFII. Almost got my multi in there as well, but weather had to postpone that check ride.

    Fuel consumption question

I've done this trip many times without issue. Not trying to stretch or anything. Just trying to figure out what works best based off other people's experiences.

    Fuel consumption question

Happy new year! I am trying to figure out the following, with a piper archer PA-28-181 (and of course for all similar planes) Say you have a 300+ nm cross-country trip. In my case, going northwest from KFRG to CYKZ. - The headwind at 3000 ft averages 25 knots, resulting in flight time of 3...

FRG-Busy airport... I just gave up. But I got a tower tour.

I'm also based out of KFRG and fully agree with you. it's so ridiculous. Atc used to manage the traffic much better about a year and a half ago. Now it's become the norm to hold short for 15-20 min. The most ridiculous thing ever.

    Plane down on Long Island

Exactly. I also forgot to mention that the plane was right side up at the time I saw it. By now yeah it's probably completely submerged. Water didn't seem to deep so whatever you see in the picture

    Plane down on Long Island

http://www.newsday.com/long-island/transportation/small-plane-crash-in-shoreham-sends-2-to-hospital-officials-say-1.12739064 I was flying 3 miles away from them and heard everything. Saw the plane on my way back into farmingdale. Very sad. Glad they made it out in one piece.

Before the 1500 hour rule - was it easy to find a CFI/CFII/MEI?

Just curious Because of the 1500 hour rule, there are tons and tons of CFIs CFIIs - fair amount MEI- not that many What was this like when you only needed 250 hours to get to the airline? Were they charging more than they were today because of supply/demand? Very curious

Getting your Commercial Rating & CFI

In the last few months when I was doing my training - I did commercial and CFI at the same exact time I didn't officially fly right seat until after I passed my CPL checkride, but I did do a few cross country practice flights from the right seat (with another pilot onboard of course) just to...

    iPad mini2 vs. mini4?

Mini 4 not a question. Mini 2 is getting slower and slower as the updates roll out

    New permanent NYC "T"FR

I just called NY TRACON to find out if we can go through the TFR for the Hudson River if we get a class B Clearence with a discrete squawk code and he said as of now, no. They are putting people above the TFR though but at that point the view isn't that great.

Skidding after touchdown in crosswind landings

Wow! You must be real confident in your students. Most instructors for safety reasons will only endorse up to 8 kts of x-wind. Just curious what the max limitation is that you give them.

Skidding after touchdown in crosswind landings

When I touch down, I am fully aligned with the runway. The issue I am having is trying to maintain control after the landing. Improper speed management on my end was cited. Proper use aileron deflection was established. Now I need to clarify the proper use of the rudder once on the ground. You...

Skidding after touchdown in crosswind landings

I thought I was doing myself a favor coming in slightly faster - especially on gusty days where I have a gain/loss on short final, but now I understand why I should stick to the POH approach speed. I'll give that a try. Just to clarify - by the time I touch down, I am in a slip configuration. I...

Skidding after touchdown in crosswind landings

My approach speed is generally a few knots faster for "added protection" so yes I am probably coming in too fast. I will work on myself to break that habit. Question is - what is proper rudder control once touched down? Aileron into the wind. But do I need opposite rudder? I feel like that will...

    Best way to lean mixture?

What is the best way to lean your mixture? I have an EGT but I never really understood how to use it. I was once told something about "50 degrees cooler" but I don't understand how to determine that, nor how to read the EGT. I don't have a digital RPM gauge, so when I lean, I wait until there...
