    On this day in history...

Question...why did they fly west? Is it because they flew closer to the equator, and the winds aloft there generally blow east to west as opposed to our jet stream up north that blows west to east? I’m guessing on this, as it is the only reason I could think of. I would have thought that flying...

    100 hour wonders.... amazing

It seems to me that personality types and communication styles play heavily into this. Case in point. I've worked with quite a few instructors, and learned that everyone does things just a little bit different. Yes, same guidelines, but none the complete same. The experience I gained from each...

Would you prefer that Martha King did the voice over?

For Sale FREE: Aviation Photo Cards

I have three 6x9 aviation photo cards. They were a gift from Lufthansa, and nice pictures, but I don't collect these kinds of things, and don't have anywhere to put them. They could be framed, they have a space in the back to accept a nail to hang, and they have paper pop-out stands in the back...

Developing story, 12/13/18: 1 dead at KVPZ crash

Just to clarify: there was fuel, and the smell was strong, but we had no puddles. The aircraft was in the swail, and it's pretty deep and wide. With a larger fuel spill I'd expect a puddle or pool, but there wasn't any. It is certainly possible with the unusually warm temps that it could have...

Developing story, 12/13/18: 1 dead at KVPZ crash

Is it not considerable that if the engine was worked on, that could have had something possibly to do with it? I’m not speculating, I would just think it would be possible.

Developing story, 12/13/18: 1 dead at KVPZ crash

He surely didn’t suffer, it was hard and fast. Our hangar security camera caught footage, it’s not even two seconds. It’s an honor to serve, but it for sure takes the ability to handle bad days, and the need for strong coping mechanisms and methods is real. Always a horrible day when you can’t help.

Developing story, 12/13/18: 1 dead at KVPZ crash

I was not, and am usually not command. I can only say that the guidance we have, and what happened on this scene, is that if there is someone to save, do whatever you have to do. But if there is no savable life and extrication is required, don't touch until the FAA arrives and gives the go ahead...

    Airline Track Diversion

Wow, very cool info, thanks for sharing. I had no idea about the NAT's. Certainly not needed for domestic VFR flight, and as far as commercial passenger, I've just been used to glancing at the moving map in my seat which is always very similar to each flight. I've just never seen it go that far...

    Airline Track Diversion

To the commercial guys who hang out way up there burning jet fuel...I've got a question. I've flown way more than my fair share as a passenger on Int'l flights multiple directions, including over to Europe and back multiple times per year. The track heading back to the US from Europe, the...

Choosing a CFI... old guy/gal or young guy/gal?

I've had 9 instructors so far. I do not believe age has much to do with it, but why they are instructing, what their personality is, and how they communicate. My top two favorite/preferred instructors are very far apart from each other... 1) Guy around 70 years old. Civil Air Patrol Captain...

    The Freaking Interstate Collapsed.......

I thought the exact same thing when I saw the presentation. It was an eye opener. Cement/concrete holds a lot of moisture. Heat it up fast and good, and you've got a disaster. Anyone who has a cement/concrete driveway sees the eventual cracks as the seasons change for the same reason. Speed that...

    The Freaking Interstate Collapsed.......

It doesn't take a whole lot of a fire to weaken and collapse cement/concrete. Saw a presentation a few years back, and I was very surprised at how such little fire exposure weakens it quickly.

What should a plane really cost?

Even with 200% margins, a company can go out quickly, especially when they are public. Too easy to get loose with what you are spending your "HUGE MARGINS!" on. While there may be a lot of oversight, there are a lot more hands in the pot. You just need to paper-fudge your way to justification.

What should a plane really cost?

Great thread. Automation, efficient process, and great machines are a blessing to manufacturing. We came from humble, but strong and proud beginnings, and these are some of the things that have helped us carve out a competitive edge in the marketplace as our competitors continue to do many...
