    Cluster in Colorado

Question. And I'm not saying that it's right, but how is the Grand Junction situation any different than at other class D airports? I'm required to have a badge here, where I work, even for the AOA. I have a SIDA badge though, but that's because potentially I have the ability to go into TSA...

    Winter Overnight parking

Well that's cool then. The one my friend has will stall out if the load gets above the rating so particular attention has to be paid to wattage.

    Winter Overnight parking

Maybe, but when the gen. keeps stalling because of too big of a load they don't put out any heat. And I like those honda gens. I would buy a honda if I needed a gen that size.

    Flying Wild Alaska

Being a TV show, they need drama. Being that their flying is going on national TV, they know the FAA is watching. Funny how when they are flying, weather is never below minimums.... They are sure to walk a straight line with all the scrutiny. There are plenty of people up here that do stupid...

    Winter Overnight parking

Right idea, but check the wattage requirements. With the current surge, you might have a hard time with one heater, on that generator. A friend uses a honda gen with eng. pan heaters and a 100 watt droplight stuck up under the panel to warm that area up. He lands a tripacer on frozen lakes...

    Upgrading seatbelts.

We just replaced some seatbelts in our helicopters. Rick at Aircraft Belts Inc. got us what we needed. There was even a slight goof up in the order on their end, and we wanted the belt lengths shortened some from what they gave us and their customer service was excellent. (My employer says...

TN Powerline inspection copter finds the powerline

My company's heli has been used to wash the insulators on the powerlines up on the North Slope oil fields. It doesn't have a WSP kit. But then, a WSP doesn't help much just hovering within 30 feet of the lines. You need forward movement for the WSP to help much.

TN Powerline inspection copter finds the powerline

A different article, linked to the first, http://www.timesnews.net/article/9039911/helicopter-clips-power-line-makes-emergency-landing-near-i-81 Looking at the two pics, I don't immediately see a wire strike kit. It might be, I just can't see it. and whether you believe news or not....

    How to become an A&P

I went to a school near Grand Rapids MI. I looked at one of the cookie cutter schools in VA. Twice. It was close to home. It was way too expensive $35-45k, and I didn't think it did a good job teaching you anything other than how to pass the test. A lot of the part 147 schools (The A&P...

    G3

In the midst of my wishful thinking about buying a plane (I'm getting close) I ran across this.... http://www.insightavionics.com/g3.htm Previous to seeing the G3, I had always figured I'd find a plane with a JPI in it, or put one in myself. I'm quite impressed with the additional features...

    SAR , family flight plan

Lockheed?!? I don't know of any. I'm hardly a employee dedicated to doing flight following. I think the thing that makes it easier for a company or family to do the FF is that they know the routes, the routine, etc better than the FAA. They also tend to have a personal interest in the matter...

    Let it go.

I know the FAA has been talking about clarifying what "actively involved" means. How that is playing out, I don't know. If you have your own plane, I'd keep it for sure. You might look into how that is looking too. I keep wondering about keeping my medic stuff current. I've been an EMT for...

    SAR , family flight plan

:) Ain't that the truth on changing the ELT. I like your design ideas. And that is the problem with company/family flight plans. (I end up taking care of most of that for my Company.) One has to be very intentional about them. But then, if you file a VFR plan with FSS from X back to X with...

    SAR , family flight plan

So if you have a cell phone, but aren't paying for service, do you really have cell phone capability? On top of that, there were flaws in the system they had and they quit using it. Spider tracks requires for you to shut down the system properly, in a similar type manner. GCI is using...

    SAR , family flight plan

Well that's good to know then, that SPOT doesn't go straight to the SAR network. For tracking purposes, I'd pick Spidertracks over a SPOT anyway. It costs you a little more, but it's almost as good as a track on radar for SAR. (But doesn't give the instant help though.) The subscription is why...

    SAR , family flight plan

I thought that if you hit the Mayday button on a SPOT, RCC will get the info, same idea as a PLB. I don't think a SPOT is quite as robust as a PLB. Heard that there were a few connection problems at times, but they typically resolved themselves in a fairly short time. SPOT also has some sort of...

    SAR , family flight plan

I'm with you most of the way. Except I don't like the 406 ELT's. They are better than the 121.5's for sure, but I have no faith in them activating properly. (I carry a PLB on my person just about all the time. McMurdo Fastfind. Small, light, and pretty good quality.) In my mind, for an ELT to...

    Slime for tires

You do if the new (to the company) CFI getting night current in the plane lands with the brakes on. At least he had sense to clear the runway and stop.

    Slime for tires

Not sure if you are asking the question, or trying to answer... Basically larger tire with less air pressure, so it will float over terrain. Kinda like a 4 wheeler. They tend to not have tread grooves on them. Though we have 8.50's on our 206. Not a true tundra tire, but lets us land in um...
