    XPlane

Used it extensively in my pp training for navigation. And in my instrument training for procedures. Very good aid but not a replacement for an airplane Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

    Failed.... 60 day question.

I believe it referrs to the requirement of being within 60 days of your instructor's recommendation. Even though your initial attempt was within 60 days the subsequent attempts must be as well.

    PBOR2 passes Senate Committee

I was chatting with a friend about this, makes you think getting your 14 year old kid a 3rd class medical once "just incase" might be a good bet. Then they'd be in the game forever and if they want to go fly all they need to do is start making logbook entries about doc visits.

So what if they ain't show up?

Odd, there is no METAR symbol for zombie attack or indication of it in the area forecast. Maybe because it all happens at ground level?

    First time IFR

My wife actually prefers IMC days, says it helps her motion sickness

    First time IFR

300 AGL is tough to get on any given weekend, 2000AGL is pretty easy to get in the spring and most of the summer IMC can be had at < 8k MSL

    First time IFR

I see this argument a lot when the topic of required actual comes up. I am lucky enough to live in New England where we have a lot of IMC conditions so this wouldn't be hard to fulfill. I got my IFR rating because I wanted to fly and those conditions prevented me from doing it more often than...

Proper way to turn a Cessna 152?

My instructor taught me to think of a rod connecting my arm to my knee, arm does down knee goes forward. Left or right it works the same

    Repair station ferry pilots

I'm a relatively new CPL-ASEL and looking for ways to make money with my new cert! I'm trying to formulate the right question and ask it to the right people. When repair stations coordinate ferry flights for planes coming in like SR-22s, Bonanzas, 182s, 172s, etc... do they typically have...

NPRM process is too unweildly for ammending AMT curriculum :stirpot:

One option is that it gives the opportunity going forward for specialty endorsements. You would still expect that an A has a baseline of skills that they can perform coming from school. After that they would obviously become more familiar with the tasks that they regularly do. I wouldn't have...

NPRM process is too unweildly for ammending AMT curriculum :stirpot:

I got this today from FaaSafey.gov FAA Issues NPRM on Modernizing AMT School Curriculum. Apparently they feel that the NPRM process is too unweildly for outlining curriculum for AMTs and are moving it into the OpSpec rather than the Part 43 appendices. I'm intrigued by this since I...

    Flew into IAD tonight

I've been there twice, Atlantic only charges $45 for all fees overnight and provides excellent shuttle service.

    Single over water?

I've flown a bunch over northern and western Maine where you have lakes and trees, frankly I'm seeing open water as a lot more survivable than most of the "land" in rural North American

    Commerical XC requirements

The only thing to watch out for are the 2 2hr instructional flights called out in (3) 20 hours of training on the areas of operation listed in §61.127(b)(1) of this part that includes at least— (i) Ten hours of instrument training using a view-limiting device including attitude instrument...

    Commercial checkride writeup

Correct! There's no instrument work on the CPL ride, same with CFI-A

    Getting them to checkride faster

This! In my experience the best CFIs I've had were the grey haired guys who were teaching as a side gig and were otherwsie very comfortable in life. They had spent decades learning to teach and flew actively. They had all the ah-ha moments already. The CFI mill CFIs aren't bad they just...

    Commercial checkride writeup

Forgive me if this is briefer than usual, feel free to ask questions. Started at the FBO at 6:30, reviewed the usual aircraft documents, pilot records, etc... Oral exam focused on 2 areas: 1) Weather, discussed differences in air masses and how that can result in wind shear. One...
