Flying an LSA cross-country VFR. Any suggestions on my routing?

Get an early start, follow interstates through the mountains or desolate areas(will have airports and possible emergency landing sites, humanity close by if off airport landing, best routes they the mountains). Flexibility is your friend, rigid schedules are the enemy.

    Dale Snodgrass crash in Idaho

Inexperience, complacency, distractions affects all pilots regardless of skill/age/knowledge. I’m sure he would blame no one but himself.

    I’m calling the peak

Stock market down 20%+ in 6 mos, fed only starting to tighten the screws. planes and boats will follow. Seen this before many times. There is no such thing as a soft landing. Right now owners don’t have to sell, but sooner or later they will. I would of sold my 172 for 35t 5 yrs ago, now I feel...

    I’m calling the peak

As long as the inflation rate(8%) is above the fed rate(1.75) all bets off. Now when the the fed rate starts decreasing, and inflation is below the fed rate, then it’s time to buy your used aircraft. Ie 1980’s and 2007

    Quandary!

As long as he is paying for the gas and his portion of the maintenance, I think the plane is benefiting from not being a hangar queen. I worry much more about my plane being inactive than I do about wearing it out. Changing the rules after the fact is a much bigger problem.

    Density Altitude and human performance

As stated above, high density altitude is function of temperature and humidity, your body is affected only altitude since the temperature and humidity is the same at the alveoli. Thus FARs regarding oxygen does not consider density altitude.

    RV capabilities

Loved my RV6 for any trip under 2 1/2 hours. Seat was comfortable, enough room for my wife and myself, and economical. However no matter how we readjusted our seating position to relieve the sore spots that eventually developed, one would always wind up in the same position. I always thought a...

Bay Area to Greeley CO VFR planning help

Agree with I-80, plenty of airports and emergency stops along the way. Enjoy the tailwinds, throttle back if any turbulence and you will still be making a good ground speed. Coming back will be a bigger concern, fighting the headwinds. Crossing the western mountains VFR, I often will use the...

Video and Discussion - Burley, ID accident. Was "Gryder"

Bottom line, MDA is the MDA, regardless of all the fancy equipment, glide slope indications, angle of descent. I have nothing against Gryder, but when you ignore MDA, you’re on your own.

Bringing the New Plane Home to Washington State

Go as far as you can each leg, land reevaluate, take what you can get, be flexible. Don’t look for a clear window all the way to Tucson. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. You’ll meet wonderful people along the way, especially at smaller airports. A couple times I’ve been taken to...

Personal x-wind minimums, & how often do you divert?

Diverted twice, should of diverted twice(successful landing but that doesn’t mean it was wise), left a day earlier or later many, many times due to weather(wind, TS, icing). Most importantly, wife is still flying everywhere with me after 50yrs and most my decisions are based on her comfort...

Bringing the New Plane Home to Washington State

Stick to your original plan, I-20 to I-10 then up thru California. Interstates are your friend going thru mountains, and having towns and airports along the way, keeping options open. Now if I was flying my old turbo twin Comanche with 1100nm range @180kts with 12,000 SE ceiling, I’d go direct...

Bringing the New Plane Home to Washington State

If you’re stopping in Hobbs, contact Jay @ Christian Aero, he goes out of his way to help with transportation, motels, service, even meeting you after hours I’m told. I fly that same route yearly going to Lopez Island, WA

Which of these bachelor degrees would be best if I want to be a major airline pilot?

The sooner you get hired, the more seniority you have, the less likely you are to be furloughed. Once hired, then make contingency plans. This is a job where you are not rewarded for being the smartest, hardest working, most educated. It what’s your seniority number.

Eye floaters and FOV (Floater Only Vitrecomy)

Keep shopping for a specialist till you find one who will tell you what you want to hear, but I doubt if I would trust his opinion just because he agreed with me. Please step back and give it some time, but that doesn’t mean you should stop learning as much as you can about floaters and...

Eye floaters and FOV (Floater Only Vitrecomy)

As a retired ophthalmologist who has lived with floaters since age 26, I would advise against a vitrectomy and would never perform one on a patient that had 20/15 vision in both eyes. With time they likely will be less debilitating. Definitely you have little to gain and a lot to lose. Your not...

Comanche in Turbulence awful compared to everything I've flown.

With it’s lower wing loading, longer wing, less response in roll(especially with tips), it did get tossed around more, but found the Comanche had advantages in that once it got in ground effect with its lower ground clearance and the abrupt loss of lift at stall(laminar flow wing) it enables a...
