Do commercial airliners slow down for turbulence?

Turb penetration speed on the triple is (at my place) 270kts below 25,000' and 280kts/.82M (whichever is lower) at or above 25,000'. In severe turb you want to maintain at least 15kts above min maneuvering speed when the speed is below .82M And in general we'll slow down if the ride sucks...

What makes a pilot do this?

Leave some up trip in there in case you let go.. Not for nothing, but it does look like fun. Risky of course, but fun nonetheless.

    Another Interesting St. Maarten Landing

Other than being on youtube vs facebook, what's the difference between the two videos to make the second one the "actual" one?

    Another Interesting St. Maarten Landing

I can't imagine they aren't stressed for slips considering we do it all the time when landing in a xwind. If a 45kt xwind doesn't put some stress on the plane I don't know what would. That being said I'm sure you agree we don't really ever "slip to get down". If it got to that point we're so...

Division? Does all of American (mainline) do dive and drive? I'm surprised y'all haven't switched over yet. VNAV is infinitely safer.

    Another Interesting St. Maarten Landing

I'm sure they use VNAV PATH. My airline has been doing it for at least 10 years. It doesn't necessarily drop you off lines up with the runway, depending on the approach.

    Another Interesting St. Maarten Landing

They obviously botched the approach at the end, but that 757 was nowhere near stalling. Not even close. The deck angle near a stall is considerably higher. And yes I'm factoring in the descent angle he has going.

    Another Interesting St. Maarten Landing

I have several thousand hours in RB211 powered 757s and the lag isn't very bad at all. You also aren't usually at idle anywhere on final below 1000' until you pull the power out for touchdown. Despite what the poster above you wrote, they were nowhere near stalling. They were not, however...

Harrison Ford avoids enforcement action for taxiway landing

I know a guy who landed a 757 on a taxiway. A husky is child's play. [emoji16] Honestly, I'm glad he didn't get the axe. Mistakes do happen and I'm glad no one was hurt. that probably had a lot to do with him not getting loved tenderly by the FAA. I bet he won't do that again.

video of 737 pilot during difficult short final

I'm surprised this one hasn't been brought up as being BS: http://www.msn.com/en-us/video/downtime/intense-pilots-view-of-landing-in-heavy-winds/vi-BBogahM (thought it's 100% real, just like the original post's video and others posted here)

    Distracted and under pressure

I know a guy who had his wife non-rev with him on a flight his g/f flight attendant was working. Now talk about flying with a distraction! :D

anyone have a huge infatuation with turbo props?

heh... I liked the King Air, then I flew a Metroliner. I definitely liked the King Air after experiencing that POS truck. Then got a hold of a Jetstream 41 and thought I made it. Small A/C unit, a LAV... FLIGHT ATTENDANT. There wasn't anything better. Then I went to the Dojet and never...

It's all about the crew rest app :) Pfft. no matter what it is, it's just less than what the wife spends!

Delta MadDog engine failure this morning!

The 777, being the lazy man's airplane, has a spot in the COMM area that gives the fuel in pounds and time. Only plane I've seen that does that (though I'm sure the 787 does as well).
