Amazing story worth reading.

A truly amazing, moving and inspiring story... Thanks for the share... The recently released movie "into the white" tells a similar (true ) story...

Bifocal Sunglasses?

That's the bifocal sunglasses I use... http://www.av-sun.com/ Good quality, comfortable to wear...do not interfere with headsets... Around $ 100.00.... I highly recommend the larger size lenses...

Please critique my fanny pack signal kit (survival, emergency)

Here I am :) My 2 cents: - get rid of the flares and smoke signals...hazardous, bulky and unreliable.... Get the ACR firefly strobe instead ( and carry a set of spare lithium batteries in a waterproof container ). Make sure you have at least 3 reliable tools to light a fire ( BIC...

Mars flyby for married couple

1.5 years in a small capsule with my wife ? You got to be kidding... And probably no internet.... Sounds like hell...

Personal Locator Beacon

With the current "zero tolerance" attitude of the FAA, I believe that flying with a lawyer is definitely more practical... :wink2:

Personal Locator Beacon

It's always a good idea to carry a small stainless utensil ( mess tin ) you can cook with in your flight bag or in a separate bag...not very practical to carry in a survival vest though... There are many ways to cook fish...it can be hanged on a stick over a fire, cooked on hot stones, etc....

Personal Locator Beacon

Your PLB is probably the ONLY reliable piece of equipment from the list you mentionned... 1. Radio ? There are good chances it will be broken after the crash or will sink with the aircraft - or will be out of range... 2. Transponder ? Ditto...( same as above ) 3. Cellphone ? Yeah...

Personal Locator Beacon

This is what you should carry in a survival vest every time you embark on a XC flight ( "dress for egress" - the survival gear won't help you if it sinks to the bottom of the sea or burns with the aircraft...) 1. PLB ( the most reliable "life insurance" you can buy...by the way, don't count...

The most expensive weapon ever built

Stealth is relative...it's only a matter of time before the new radars will be able to detect the "stealth" aircraft... Send drones to destroy the enemy's radar system along with a few hundred cruise missiles - that's the reason you have them...and save the money you're spending on the...

The most expensive weapon ever built

Hey...I just had this completely crazy idea... What if the Brits were provided with a bit of financial aid from the DoD in order to refine and improve the Harrier design ? Wouldn't that be good enough for the USMC ? ( in the amphibious landing air support role )... If they need a more...

The most expensive weapon ever built

Exactly my point... If your government doesn't have the balls to confront a bunch of rabid goat herders, what's the use for all that expensive technology ?

The most expensive weapon ever built

The Soviet Union fell apart because they couldn't keep up with America in the arms' race... They eventually ran out of money and their artificial economy collapsed... I still remember a documentary showing the Russian nuclear subs rotting in Mourmansk because they had no money to perform...

The most expensive weapon ever built

What? SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI....:( If America needs help from the French....you're really circling the drain.... Who said " going to war with the French army is like going to hunt with an accordion"....? :D

Women Open To Combat Roles

A hot shower for a menstruating woman is not what I would call a "cultural nicety"... Not being able to shower for more than a month would cause more than a bit of discomfort to women.... [/IMG]

The most expensive weapon ever built

The U.S. has more conventional carriers than all the other countries in the world combined... There's a big difference between "nice to have" toys and "must have" toys... When you you have a deficit of around 17 Trillions ( !!! ) you should be happy with "must have" toys... P.S. the...
16. Armageddon Aviator

The most expensive weapon ever built

Who needs "baby flat tops" when you have so many nuclear aircraft carriers ? A VTOL aircraft ( like the Harrier ) was a must for the British after they decided to scrap their conventional carriers ( budget constraints )... But when you maintain such a big fleet of conventional carriers...

The most expensive weapon ever built

We already have an excellent multi-role fighter...it costs a small fraction of that insanely expensive F-35 white elephant... The F-16I, a highly modified version of the F-16 is exceeding the Israeli Air Force expectations...a great bird that could save the U.S. hundreds of billions...

Women Open To Combat Roles

I totally agree with that article...people who believe that women can serve in infantry units have never been in a combat situation and are completely clueless... Combat is NOT what you see on typical Hollywood movies...the article provides an accurate description of what fighters must endure...

Pipistrel Virus

Yep, you can say that...:wink2: The specs are just amazing and the aircraft is sleek and sexy... Definitely something to consider if you want to get great performance without paying a fortune in fuel bills...

Iran Stealth Jet

True... The Israeli Air Force purchased French fighters until 1967. The Mirage IIIC was a wonderful, nimble and sexy supersonic fighter... Israel won the Six Days War with a force of French birds including Vautours, Fouga, Mystere IV, Ouragans and Mirage... We also used the...
