Don't forget to "Dress For Egress". If there is a post crash fire, of if you need to ditch the aircraft, all that gear will be completely useless... It's always nice to have some extra equipment in a backpack ( tent, sleeping bags, food, etc...) - but it should be considered "extra gear" -...

Not sure I understood your question... Why would that make any difference ?

To answer your question, GA is agonizing here... Exorbitant costs ( $ 250 for a badly maintained, 40 years old 172...) certainly contribute to this situation. There are new airspace restrictions almost every month, new TFR's almost every week... Business is bad and FBO's are closing...

In one word: MESMERIZING ! :)
