Cirrus pilot paid $15,000 for a parachute repack?

You can cut some of these costs by: Hose replacement, shop it out, do the hoses yourself under an A&P. Prop and magneto overhauls could have been an IRAN. Instead of muffler replace, sent it out for IRAN. ELT and avonics upgrade are what they are. The annual seems high, but it all depends on...

The future of GA is one step closer....

Of course the current GA community would not accept this change. Look how long it took them to accept Cirrus aircraft.... Look at the reaction to LSA, experimental (hell look at this forums comments on Cirrus and RV's), etc. the old dogs of GA will not Shepard in new GA for today's youth...

Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

You cannot even buy a BMW M5 for less than 100K now a days. Heck, many top line SUV's are going for $75K. While I don't think that a plan should cost significantly more than those, at least they have the manufacturing costs spread out over a larger production run. I'm sticking with...

She said "Let's just buy a King Air"

While I understand the hesitation on getting a bigger plane right from the get-go. Something to factor in is the acquisition and sales cost of the first plane, versus say flying with an instructor in the 2nd plane for say 100 hours.

    Harrison Ford DHC2 mini movie

That was great.... Very well done.

She said "Let's just buy a King Air"

Your smart for wanting A/C in Texas. I did the VFR corridor under Houston on my way back from NC. I would have went around, but the airport is right on the west side of Houston, so went under it.... Biggest mistake ever, as it was late afternoon and 95+ in the cabin....

If you filed a flight plan, your good to go. If not, your screwed!

Are we really scared of our own shadows?

http://news.yahoo.com/suspect-montana-family-shooting-wyoming-18-old-182805140.html This is why it is better to just let people be and not get involved.

Anyone else notice that most of Class G above 1,200 no longer exists?

That's one perspective for sure, not saying you are right or wrong. But, maybe the equipment is improving and ATC can help more people. For a mere $1 billion the U.S. Government could launch drones over every person in the U.S.

ATIS: Caution drones at pattern altitude

I cannot speak for all quadcopters, but my DJI Inspire 1 will not let me fly in restricted airspace. That includes airports.

Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

Time is key.... when I got my license I walked into the FBO and asked what I needed to do... they sold me the cleared for takeoff books and off I went. 2 weeks later, after my test was done, I walked back into the FBO and said you have 30 days to get me my pilots license. I flew twice a day...

ATIS: Caution drones at pattern altitude

Drones are the future of warfare.... why deploy soldiers when you can deploy drones and go house to house.... Now we need mechs and we will be all set....

Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

The biggest reason is Access, IMO. If you live in the city, you must leave the city... if you are close to an airport it is fenced off and segregated from society. I use to think it was money, but I don't believe that at all. People have disposable income and spend it on all sorts of things...

What do you folks think about the Icon A5

that's what I thought my mission was, until I lived in D.C. and it took me over an hour just to get to the plane, without traffic, forget rush hour.... The biggest turn off to aviation in a larger city is the lack of access, IMO....

What do you folks think about the Icon A5

I guess I'm pretty stupid, if I get a read on this thread. In 2009 I bought a 2006 Cirrus Sr 20 for $160K and sold it almost 2 years later for $157K. While it was a great plane, it would not fit my needs now. Their are 5 people in my immediate family, me, wife and 3 kids. An airplane will...

We have never done anything like that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_Wars Lots of similarities to today's society.

Is General Aviation Dying in the USA?

A quad copter that you can also drive on the road would save aviation, IMO. This would also make airports obsolete, which would save more money too. While Moller is a money sink for many, his skycar 400 would be a true game changer. The ability to take off in one's drive way, fly direct and...
