Suuuper frustrated...have had to cancel my PP checkride 3x now due to weather

Yeah I guess I'm just worried that I won't be able to nail centerline with 15 (unless its right down the runway), I know I can fly safely with 20-25 knot winds it's just not pretty that's all. I guess at some point here I'll just have to give it a go regardless since it seems to take about a...

Suuuper frustrated...have had to cancel my PP checkride 3x now due to weather

I guess I'm just venting I'm sure others have had this problem but I feel like its almost impossible to get decent conditions for your checkride here in the northeast in the winter. One day the winds will be good but ceiling too low, then the ceiling will be fine but winds will be 15+ knots...

Logging PIC time during instrument training without PPL

Yup I'm part 141 and in a university program, will be going all the way through CFII I should have clarified my question wasn't about logging PIC for instrument (as you stated there is no requirement for 141) but just about building my PIC time in general. Thanks for all the input guys

Logging PIC time during instrument training without PPL

Ok cool, that's what we thought but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on logging hours if it was possible somehow :)

Logging PIC time during instrument training without PPL

Yeah the not quite I think is where we are confused. I know I can't log it while in private training unless I'm solo because of the "sole manipulator" designation, but while in instrument training I am the sole manipulator even though I am not actually the pilot in command. The FARs talk about...

Logging PIC time during instrument training without PPL

So I have sort of a weird situation that has confused my flight instructor and I. I have had to reschedule my PPL check ride a few times now due to weather but pushed on to my instrument training, now about 5 lessons in, while waiting for my next date. The guidance on logging PIC time is about...

    Introduction?

Sportys! I'm from Fairfield Ohio originally, out in Baltimore/DC now and have been about 10 years, was active duty Air Force for 6 and been a gov contractor since then. I'm actually looking to come out to Sportys to flight instruct around a year from now once I get my CFII. Welcome aboard.

Journey to Private Pilot almost finished! v.longxcdone

Yup! Cape May was my first XC with instructor and first solo, it is beautiful out that way. I'll have to stop in next time and try it out, I haven't stopped there yet just touch and go.

Journey to Private Pilot almost finished! v.longxcdone

Well, this weekend was beautiful and I was able to knock out about 8 hours of flying total, completed my stage 2 check with the Chief pilot at my school on a very windy day and did a mock oral where he said I did very well. Saturday I knocked out my other short solo XC from Martin State...

    Pattern at towered airport

I fly out of a Delta and works like this: If on ground, let them know you have the ATIS and plan on staying in the pattern. They will give you a code and you fly the normal traffic pattern, if they want you in the opposite they will tell you. If coming inbound let tower know you have the ATIS...

    getting frustrated!

You are probably already doing it, but for me what helped a TON with the radio was listening to a lot of live ATC, and especially doing it while driving. I could read back all day long while sitting on the couch listening to live ATC, but when it came time for the plane, my first few lessons I...

    getting frustrated!

I've been very frustrated too, I'm just about finished with my private (about 4 flights left) and I haven't been able to fly for 2 1/2 weeks because of weather. Was planning on doing a cross country this weekend because its going to be beautiful but of course my home airport is closed all...

Difficult to find a full time job as CFI?

Yeah I'm definitely moving. I'm in Maryland and the weather here is....difficult, at best. I'll be quitting my career of the last 10 years to flight instruct full time to get those hours ASAP so I will likely move out west somewhere...Texas, Arizona, California etc

Difficult to find a full time job as CFI?

Good to know, I thought that statement was a little odd. Perhaps he thought I was thinking I could find a guaranteed 40 hour a week job, which of course I know isn't possible, I just want to be able to work 6x a week or so if possible and fly as much as I can.

Difficult to find a full time job as CFI?

Ok good to hear, this was what I was planning on doing if possible. I'm 33 and will probably be halfway to 35 by the time I finish my training so wanted to move somewhere southwest and instruct 6 days a week if possible to get those 1250 hours. No family no gf just me so was hoping it was...

Difficult to find a full time job as CFI?

So I had a pretty interesting talk with the chief pilot at my flight school the other day. I'm in a professional pilot program at a local university here in Baltimore and am planning on making flying a career. As I was talking to him about this he made the comment that it's very difficult to...

G.I. Bill benefits for Flight Training

That is because Palo Alto didn't want to deal with the extra burden (perhaps rightfully so) that comes with being funded by VA. I am in a 2 year program right now and private is covered, the deal is that the instructors must also be employees of the university as well in order for it to be...

G.I. Bill benefits for Flight Training

You know if you pick a university that has a 2 or 4 year degree program you can get everything paid for by the G.I. Bill right?

G.I. Bill benefits for Flight Training

Like others have said go to a part 141 school which is VA approved. They are harder to find now but they are still out there. I'm going to CCBC here in Baltimore. All told I'll get about $47,000 for flight training (plus the cost of the two year program). I spent about $7k out of my own pocket...
