Cirrus SR22 2017 here are the REAL changes.

Just finished an annual on a 2014 Cirrus. From a maintenance standpoint, I really like the airframe. It seems solid and easy to inspect. I like the TSIO-550 and from what I have seen, it doesn't have a higher failure rate than average. Plus, that fancy leather interior smelled fantastic. I...

    I did not...

Well, that's frustrating. Hope you are able to fix it quickly. Never knew that about the Luscombe cowl; seems really silly. I installed an IO-360 a month or two ago and turns out the overhaul shop didn't install an oil seal on one of the vacuum pump drive shafts. Frustrating, but an easy fix.

    And I said earlier that I thought they were 1" - 1.5". That's BIG.

    Staring Tailwheel Endorsement

I think I had 7.5 hours when I got my endorsement. I also had a decently long cross country thrown in there. There was a point where I couldn't get handle the idea of the tail coming up on takeoff. I took a week to ponder things and once I reconciled it in my mind, the training went very...

How much flying is too much flying?

My longest in one day was eight hours, I think. It was a straight tail 182 and I didn't want the day to end. However, I also recently flew 5.2 hours from New Mexico to Eagle, Colorado at night. That night was too long.

How do I want this flight to end?

    Decisively.

    Carb flames.

If I was in your position, I'd probably have a mechanic look over it. There is a very slight chance you damaged the throttle plate. Wires, scat hose, oil lines, and zip ties/tie cord are the common things to get singed in a carb fire. Shouldn't take but 5 minutes for someone to look over it...

    Bad attitudes

I tried to justify his attitude with that thought but his tone, lack of wanting to hear anything else I had to say, and word about him from others at the airport suggests that's not the case. How is that?

Cardinal Pilot Flying Pipeline - Crashed

About 30 miles from the house I grew up in. Big tower on a ridge. The guy lines are 1" to 1.5" diameter.

    IO470 Idle Help

Todd is a pretty neat guy and he has come up with some great designs and STCs. Got lunch with him once and listened to some good stories. My guess would still be the fuel pump/relief valve as well. Seems most likely. Just because something was rebuilt doesn't mean it is perfect. I've seen a...

    Positive ATC Stories

I've had a lot of great interactions with concerned and patient controllers. I've had my first ever pop up IFR with a patient controller. Had controllers tell me their concern over route or altitude of flight. Had to call Aspen Tower every morning before work started and they were always...

    Risked my life today

Thanks. Hope you enjoy the smell of new leather when you get your plane. I flew two instrument approaches last weekend in the dark. It had been months since I had done so and I found the same true for me: smooth, needle centered, on altitude. Being extra attentive is good for precision but I...

    Risked my life today

You trade you airplane in on the 15th, I close on the cabin and start my manifesto on the 15th. Big day for both of us. I think if you ate a blue donut for breakfast, you won't need an AOA. And soon you'll have a chute so the AOA is redundant.

    Bad attitudes

So true and some days it makes me nervous. A week ago I put a gear actuator in another P210N and I want it to go fly so I can relax a bit. There is no reason it should fail but that doesn't make me less conscious of the possibilities.
