    Checkride - Check!

Ha, yeah, the sim pit has been limited severely because I figure I better read the FAR/AIM instead. May with the instrument training I will get more serious sim time in.

    Checkride - Check!

Oh.. maybe KC... maybe Austin. I don't know, maybe just more steep turns and s-turns. Feels kind of weird to just say "I'm going over there..." after limiting everything to 25nm or so with the occasional cross country.

    Checkride - Check!

Yeah, DPE asked me the same thing. Thought I would take the spouse up just to show her it's not too nutty or sketchy as the perception would be. If she won't be first then one of my kids probably. Perfect timing for the checkride though. Weather was great during the day off checkride and...

    Checkride - Check!

53.9 hours (26.3 dual / 27.6 PIC), $10,268 cash and 514 days later - I passed my ASEL PPL checkride Thursday. What a great day! My instructor and I left for KOJC on Wednesday morning to get up there, get a lay of the land and do a full day of practice before the checkride Thursday am. My...

    Aviation Headsets

I bought Bose A20 when I started my training. Best move I made with regard to biting the expense bullet. I did the 12 months, same as cash and it was much less painful. Super quiet.. super comfort and super clear. I tried several different headsets right out of the gate because the headsets...

    New Transponder

Hey! Oh great... secrets out of the bag now! From here on out, every landing is a greaser and everything is in tip top shape - ha. A few bills later, Geoff got the transponder repaired and there is nothing new in the plane for avionics. I think the logic is wait until it's the transponder +...

To keep, swap or buy more fuel..

That. I think you just convinced me. If I slam the door on this gift all further gift giving attempts will be come to a screeching halt. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

To keep, swap or buy more fuel..

Thanks for the input - the Bravo model has the METAR. The D2 Pilot does not (I don't think). The "emergency" factor is the biggest selling point. I also like the alerts by vibration and always notifying you of closest airport. But... so does my ipad.. or my sectional chart. I still think...

To keep, swap or buy more fuel..

So now that I have been working on my PPL for a while now - everything holiday gift related family ends up being all things aviation to me. I have no problem with that but at the end of the day, what I really need is just time. The wife gave me a Garmin D2 watch. Fancy but I just don't...

    New Transponder

Transponder is the immediate need. If the plane is going in to the shop to have transponder repaired / replaced - now is the time to get compliant. The LYNX UAT systems still need a GPS source correct? Someone who would have say a 430/530 waas unit would start looking at these UAT boxes...

    New Transponder

Thanks for the information guys. I am trying to get it sorted all out. I will take a list of options to the owner of the plane and start this conversation with "What are you going to do with the plane". We haven't discussed the ownership transfer yet as I am still getting my training wrapped...

    New Transponder

I didn't leave you with a lot of information to go by. - There is no WAAS on board. The avionics package is pretty much straight from the 1979 factory. Collins radios / nav and OBS gauges. There is very little by way of avionics upgrades. The only thing that has been added was a KLN-35A...

    New Transponder

The plane I training in ('79 Archer II) is currently in for it's annual. One of the items that has cropped up is the transponder is not always sending out the correct signage at all times. The original transponder is just beginning to fail. The owner of the plane has come to me with opinions...

    Stuck Ailerons

I always flip the aileron up when I do my walk around to check hinges, wicks and push rod. I always glance up to make sure the yoke moved in the correct direction and make sure no one is on the other wing waiting for a pinched finger when I move the aileron back up to neutral.

    Stuck Ailerons

Excellent theory and the second thing I though of right after headphone cable. AP master was off. Maybe the switch is lose/faulty... The switch doesn't feel fresh at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Stuck Ailerons

I thought I would drop a quick line about my flight today... well almost flight. The weather was a fantastic - 60 degrees, LV winds and severe clear. I called up the FBO to have the plane (Archer II) pulled. I walked out to the plane and begin my preflight. I did my usual routine running...

    GoPro question

NFlightcam.com sells filters and audio cables. They work great. Get yourself a GoPro BakPack which will get in about 2 hours of flight time. I use the extra battery and filers on all of my flight.. Example- https://vimeo.com/138586640 Both have been worth while investments for me. It's...

    Passed my Private Checkride!

Do share - send me copies of how you planned your flight. I could learn something! Benjamin PS - Congratulations! That's awesome. Knowing how long it's taking me and the effort put into learning, training, scheduling and swiping the credit card, this is no small feat.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I planned my long XC two nights ago for yesterday morning. The planning took me a lot longer to do than anticipated. I was checking and re-checking. Well, the planning was all for practice. I showed up at the field at 11:00z, preflighted and went to the FBO to talk about the flight, review...

ASA FAR / AIM - App or ibook or eBook

Thanks guys. I grabbed the app. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't garbage. I didn't think it would be but .. I have seen crummy apps out there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
