Yes. A failed engine on one side with the other developing full power will definitely cause the aircraft to swerve. That is why a multi-engine pilot keeps his/her hand on the throttles: any loss of directional control during the takeoff roll must be aborted immediately. Once airborne (above...

Duke down and on fire, Fullerton CA

Thanks sk8s for your info, diagrams, and photos. Your runway photo/diagram leads me to believe that there was uncommanded yaw early in the takeoff sequence, and the (appropriate) response of closing both throttles immediately would have allowed for a complete stop on the remaining runway...

Duke down and on fire, Fullerton CA

Hey,Z: Nice post. Any uncommanded yaw during the takeoff roll is cause to close both throttles and apply maximum braking. Once at Vmc + 5 (typically), the twin is rotated and accelerated to blue-line Agreed on the possibility of a Vmc roll. The "Rudder to the floor..." routine only works if...

Do I need insurance if I'm getting dual given?

Wisely spoken: the (probably) flunkee at the desk/counter has no grasp of what you're concerned about. I'd humbly suggest that you get a non-owned policy to CYA; good to have when you have the plane out on your own, anyway. This is not expensive (in aviation terms), and it's not worth the...

Tell us your best courtesy car story!

Dale: I'm guessing you've been around the block; a lot of courtesy cars aren't unlike "(your) car." I've always felt grateful for them, and I think you nailed it in post #22. Thanks. BTW, if you happen to be at an airport without a courtesy car, just get to the road and start walking; I've...

Tell us your best courtesy car story!

In Nebraska they're often runouts. The keys are usually on top of the door molding or on a hook beneath the pay-phone (remember those?). Bring it back with more gas than it left with.

    Ghetto engine heat preservation

You did call the thread "ghetto", didn't you? It seems that this works if you leave the engine running and get out to throw a sleeping bag, comforter and towels into the prop. Cut the legs off of your yoga pants to cover the prop (wait until it's stopped for this). Be blessed.

How would you get an organ (Wurlitzer, Hammond, etc.) into that?
