I have included the back out clause contingent upon prebuy annual inspection to allow me to get my deposit money back. That gives me a legal out to avoid losing money. I had one prebuy fail at one time and this saved my bacon as the plane would have required almost 15k in airworthy repairs.

Well the accepted offer was 20k less than asking price so I think that is far as long as I can walk away and the inspection has no major issues.

Quick question on a plane that my offer was accepted to buy. The seller accepted my offer to sell the plane "As Is" meaning that airworthy issues uncovered at annual inspection are my responsibility. Would you move forward on a deal like this is the price was right?

Looked at nice 1960 Cessna 182 Skylane for sale today at Crownair in San Diego. Want to do prebuy at different shop and looking for recommendations. Plane flies great and has a Garmin 530W and IFR current so perfect as first plane and to complete my instrument rating in.

The local San Diego DPEs whom I've asked this question allow an ipad with FF but like to see a backup of some type like paper charts.

I have cash and no debt. Car paid off years ago. Renting as it is cheaper than a mortgage for overpriced real estate in San Diego. Probably will pay cash for plane in future as rates are still higher than I'd like.

Exactly! I had the chance to fly a Yak 52 and loved the amazing control harmony in spite of the quirks of a pneumatic air brake system. Some Yak and other warbirds have been updated for IFR with glass panels. Add extended range tanks and that is the most fun XC machine you can fly on a budget...

Agree you should be able to competently hand fly any plane for IFR. The AP can and will fail at wrong time in IMC. Cirrus should not be that hard to hand fly with proper training. The electric trim joystick buttons on the stick suck but can be mastered.
