    Advice for loooooong cross-country

If your trip thru Texas happened to be today, you would find weather on the northern routes. You would do good to create a list of potential airports with on field restaurants. Good FBOs are all over this area, but KDHT and KSJT stand out as stops with good food if your route requires deviation.

    Interesting and unusual airport/runway/taxiway designs

Yes to the new building & no to any change in FBO management goals at KMDD. Future challenges at Airpark will be when they soon begin oil & gas drilling operations on the airfield.

Should I NOT buy a Cessna 162 Skycatcher?

I passed on an opportunity some 35 yrs ago; an active local & low time Piper Tomahawk for $5k. A certified airplane that no one seemed to love. Regret to this day because I soon got out of aviation for a significant period of time. That might have kept me in the air & given me the flying...

HUGE INCREASE IN MOAs PLANNED...Please Help!!!

My ranchland is prob 30 nm SW of Dyess AFB. Bone traffic is most always high where I am, but the low level airspace above my land commonly has their C-130 and whatever Laughlin AFB is teaching their students in, T-1, T-6, T-38 flying in random directions and there are no marked MTRs or MOA here...

the Turbo 182 is back in production

It is also a great thing as an owner to have your aircraft variant still in production. I have a 78 Decathlon. The new ones coming out of the ACA factory today are identical in many ways. I love being able to call the factory and get advice and parts from the TC holder. It is beneficial to...

the Turbo 182 is back in production

I use my T182T typically for single day roundtrips from Midland to Houston & similar E Texas. It has better endurance than I do; flightplan for 12 gph. Others are certainly faster, but depending on the winds, I prefer traveling in the high teens where it never seems crowded. Thankful for the...

Question on Cessna 182T fuel flow on starting

My son’s technique on our 2004 T182T is to run the boost pump for several seconds beyond the stabilized fuel flow & he always seems to get a start on his first cranking attempt. But, we have an aftermarket starter, which is placarded to avoid much cranking. So, for a cold engine I usually run...

And that why we preflight, folks

I once pulled a pint of water out of one of my 182’s wet wing tanks at the third flight since the last fill. There are enough places for a gob of water to hide in those kind of tanks to turn you into a happy sumper.

Icon A5.. another crash Jul 27

Water looks to have some chop to it from the wind, so near the treeline some random swirling could be expected. Also, glad they hit in the water because it appears they went down hard enough for worse injuries if it had been on pavement or rocks.

    FAAST Meetings, do you recommend?

I like these faasafety seminars/meetings. These gatherings are not large so they’re easy to speak up in & frequently involve BBQ. What’s not to like? The attendees out here are diverse; students, part 91 pilots, pipeline patrolers, homebuilters. I can easily walk away with something new or...
