riding out to the end of the runway was fun, especially in cold weather. The noise was painful. potentially running out of fuel was a scary proposition. Expecting the engine to quit any minute was unnerving. the concept of a go-around still hasn't sunk in.
easy to turn the vario off. Most of the gliders I've flown don't even have an audio indicator.
As for running down the rocks like that. Do-able but quite a bit more risky than most soaring operations. Context, conditions, and experience make all the difference. Worth it?

I been reading on some oil industry blog that if they dont plug it BELOW the damage the leaking oil is going to keep eroding the rock around the casing till the entire sea bed around the well is gushing oil. That could be quite exciting.
winning a gliding contest is an amazing achievement. It's not a regular sort of race like people think. Just getting everything READY for a gliding contest is more than most people could ever handle. Placing high enough every day to actually win one is really something. Nice work man!
