Viable airplane options for low time pilots?

I bought for three reasons. First off, the airports that I wanted to fly into at the time were on the "NFW" list of the two FBOs. Second, I wanted to fly a tailwheel airplane and, at the time, the nearest place to rent one was over an hour's drive each way. Third, I had my fill of showing up...

Viable airplane options for low time pilots?

If the idea is to build time in local trips, go for the basic airplane. On the occasions when you want to fly much further out, either rent or fly the airlines. My thought is that if you buy an airplane for the longer flights, you're going to find that local flying will cost you a lot more...

    CTAF door code follies

I know the gate code. It drives the airport manager nuts when we use it, and then drive over to the shade hangers, past terminal. But there's nothing he can do about it, since the mayor's Twinkie is in the same shade hanger as my airplane. And he drives in that way, too. :)

    How Do Ya Do?

I found this place after a mention of the "Blue Board" on Avsig by Scott Dyer. At first, I thought it might be an IBM forum, seems I was wrong. I've been on Avsig since not long after the invention of the personal computer, or so it seems. I was on a few aviation boards back in the day of the...

    Weird TFRs today...

Don't know about that. A long time ago, I was a documentary about some guy named Dax who was horribly burned when he and his dad drove their car into a valley where there had been a gas leak.

Discussions with my dad: what plane would work?

+1 on that. I've owned a 108-2 since 1990. Back then, I flew it in and out of Moore's Farm Airport in Dummerston, VT, which had a 1,800' turf runway. Univair has the TC, parts support isn't an issue for the airframe. I've not had an issue with engine parts yet (knock wood).
