    What sucks about your airplane?

Of course I love the Comanche 250 for speed, range, load hauling and looks but my plane is old.... as in older than my parents old (1960). A new 2019 model with some aerodynamics refinement and carbon fiber would be a crazy good plane. Time to google the Ravin 500 now.....

    Garmin 175 with GTX33es

I mean the ability to control it. Since the 33ES is in the tail, it'd be great if the 175 could actually control the inputs to the transponder.

    Garmin 175 with GTX33es

Huh, don't know how the hell I missed that! Thanks, I'm an idiot.

    Garmin 175 with GTX33es

Interesting. I need to look a little further into this because it does not list the GNS480 on that sheet, and I know that works. Thanks for the find!

    Garmin 175 with GTX33es

I’ve glanced through the Garmin Manuals online for the new Garmin 175/375 and haven’t found what I’m looking for. Will the Garmin GPS175 run a remote mounted GTX33ES? The timer key on the 175 is a little redundant with my MidContinent timer and I’m wondering if the key can be used as the xpondr control.

    New, 2019 DA42-VI or SR22TG6

I vote for the DA-42. I have compared the Cirrus and Diamond too. Having a twin to cross mountains and water would be the “kitties titties”! An all wx, multi would really be the pennicle of my GA flying needs. Too bad that is probably out of reach for anyone that makes less than $500k/yr.

    Running tanks dry in cruise

Run them dry. 4 tanks in the Comanche with two selectors. Out of each of 15gal tips, 15gallons are usable. There is a gradual fuel pressure drop when they are going dry and then I do the switch. I do brief any passengers but I normally don't kill the engine. Also have a fuel computer that is...

    What would you change?

I've talked to the new owner of Rayjay turbos (he owns a twin Comanche) and they can do the twin turbos on a 250. I'm sure it's in the $20K+ price range. I routinely fly in the oxygen levels and find myself daydreaming about what my true airspeed would be with those manual turbos.....

    What would you change?

I was going to say the same thing, Comanche!! It is a four person, full fuel, no weight and balance issue airplane. Having said that, things I would change/wish for if I had the money.....aircraft de-ice, turbocharger (the Comanche loves altitude but the O-540 loses steam about 10K), and I wish...

Air Traffic Controllers and how the shutdown is affecting them

You just called out all of America. I agree though. I guess I need to save up a year of salary now.

Air Traffic Controllers and how the shutdown is affecting them

No offense taken. I get where you are coming from but some people put their money into luxuries that match their income. I, for one, choose flying, an we all know that airplanes are not cheap. Also why I drive a 2008 Saturn to offset my spending habits.

Air Traffic Controllers and how the shutdown is affecting them

This for sure! Everyone thinks because ATC gets paid well, we all live like $40k year people. Not true. Higher income just means we pump more money into the market, higher mortgages, more expensive cars, etc etc. I think its just the way America works. Doesn't matter how much money you make, 85%...

Air Traffic Controllers and how the shutdown is affecting them

Absolutely. I've been working 6days a week for a year or two. Probably have another 2yrs before they stop. My new schedule this year is 4-10hr days, sounds nice but that just means the FAA can make me work two overtime shift a week now. Up to 60hr a week which is the legal limit.

Piper Comanche 250 vs Mooney M20F which one is better?

I own a 250 and my best friend owns a Mooney M20C (sorry not the F). If I slow to M20C speeds, my fuel burn is about the same as the M20C. 140kts at about 9.5gph at 5500ft. We flew in formation to Rockford last month so I could get the Aussie horn installed on my plane. It was a great...

Install an AHRS App on your phone -- Now.

Nobody has mentioned the Stratus 2S with Foreflight! I have the synthetic vision and it is absolutely a backup system. In the few years I have had this system, it has never once failed. I trust it more than my vacuum pump. Now having said that, I do only fly IFR with reference to the panel stuff...

    Baron down around KLBL

That’s it. Very little news out on this. Makes me wonder why. Everyone can learn something about these accidents, so I hope more information gets released soon.

    Baron down around KLBL

There were many warning out all day for Colorado and Kansas. The Controller working the Baron warned him about all the icing in the area too. The system is still moving through MO and IL right now. Nearly had a repeat today. 172 caught in the ice from KMKC to KCGI. We got that one down safely...

    Baron down around KLBL

It'll be soon. The plane was found 3 miles from KLBL. I don't think they'll be releasing audio anytime soon, unless someone else recorded it.
