Exactly. In the case of fuel exhaustion, if you simply make your own rock-hard rule to never arrive with less than an hour in the tank (as I do), you remove yourself from that category, pretty much. So if anyone is really safety minded, it's very easy to overwhelmingly "rig the stats" in your favor.

Aviation accidents are very predictable, statistically. Therefore, they are easy to avoid by taking proper counter-measures. For example, every year there is a certain number of people hit by a turning propeller on the ramp, usually during entry/exit of an aircraft with its engine running. If...

    Why climb for ice?

At least in my experience, sublimation is a very slow process. In some flights where I picked up ice while climbing and got to clear (sub-freezing) air on top, there was virtually no sublimation or shedding to speak of until my descent, sometimes hours later.

    Lightning vs. Glider

Are you aware of any studies that show more static buildup on airplanes inside rather than outside clouds (given a convective environment)?

    Lightning vs. Glider

Just wondering, wouldn't lightning be more probable outside clouds (hence likely VMC) than inside?

    GTN750 LNAV+V Question

No problem. I somehow imagined you were getting minimum descent information (like the big boys), which would have been very cool. :)

    GTN750 LNAV+V Question

Maybe it's something to do with air data hookup (which I don't have), but my GTN never indicates minimums, on any approach. What am I missing?

If she really loves you, she'll not only let you fly, but want you to fly. And if she is really good, she'll want to become a pilot herself (or at least a pinch-hitter). Also, nothing wrong with reading about aviation accidents. That's a good way to learn to become safer, and realize that it...

    [NA] Importing bulk liquor

According to this, the US imported $52m of wine and beer from SA in 2015. Why not contact one of those export/import companies (on either side) and ask them if they can get you X cases along with their next regular shipment? Can't hurt to ask...

Question: Career as a Female Pilot?

No. But I admitted to being sexist. :)

Question: Career as a Female Pilot?

You may regard this as sexist, but in my opinion real men don't complain about being treated unfairly. They work hard and try to excel, and if their bosses don't appreciate them, they move on to another job, or start their own company. The ones who complain are wimps, which might explain why...

Is my CFII having me fly the ILS too fast?

It's generally bad for a piston engine to abruptly chop off the power, due to excessive cylinder cooling rate. Which is one more reason to slow down a bit past the FAF. I generally go slow enough to allow 10 degree flaps, unless I have heavy iron on my tail, in which case I try to be a good...

Question: Career as a Female Pilot?

I think you are reading too much into it. I am not confusing anything, since what I say is based on basic principles. All I am saying is that having disproportionate representation compared to society at large is generally counterproductive. I am sure there are exceptions, esp. in smaller...

Question: Career as a Female Pilot?

It doesn't have to be perfect, but it's a good target to aim for. I think when you deviate substantially from the ratio of a group compared to society as a whole, you become less effective. That's just my personal view based on my own experience and you are free to disagree.

Question: Career as a Female Pilot?

So call it "-neutral" or "-agnostic", or just "merit focused". The latter would cover other cases of bias besides just sex and race.

Question: Career as a Female Pilot?

True. But you'd hear all kinds of stories about men complaining about subtle discrimination because of their gender, which you don't, unlike the reverse.

Question: Career as a Female Pilot?

Being race/gender blind is good, no disagreement there.
