"Flying Car" I'd actually like to own.

absolutely. good point. I was still stuck on comparing it to the...the.... what was the name of that thing that this thread is about? :)

"Flying Car" I'd actually like to own.

At least the physics of Moller's design make its flight somewhat remotely plausible. ... given some improvements in energy density.

    Spaceship 2 Mishap

Sad. IIRC, they changed the fuel used earlier this year.

    Dog Lovers' Hints/Tricks/Techniques Thread

We have a incredibly aware & high strung pup (12 years old and still spry and sometimes spastic). I have learned to appreciate the cuteness and let the crazy roll off my back. Yes, it took a long time. With her, in particular, I have learned to say less overall - using the "Chhht!" sound...

    Am I nuts?

I had the same desire at your age (2 years ago). I didn't even care to fly the big boys or corporate - regional would've been fine. However, going into debt is expensive. :) ... there are plenty of single lads and ladies who can work for peanuts for 10 years. There are other things I can...

"Flying Car" I'd actually like to own.

The stock music riff in the video instills loads of confidence. I think they'll get it done. soon. :) Seriously though, hopefully they can raise funds and push technology. Quad copter for personal transport intrigues me; however, this "flying mechanical engineering class project" has...

    Anyone using RunKeeper?

I used Strava - and then switched to Digifit/Training Peaks. Digifit has a lot of capacity/potential depending on what you want to do. Strava does the 'buddy" thing really well. -best of luck!

    Moving to Tennessee

Welcome to middle TN. I would love to see another instructor in West Nashville/John Tune, ... but Lebanon will do. - hope all goes well with the move - certainly give a shout if you need anything.

    low flight over river....

I apologize it wasn't clear. I never said what altitude the MOA covers. - just that it was here and they operate at tree top level quite often in this stretch. Seriously. I don't think I know any more than anyone. Most of you guys flaming would've thought the same thing I did had you seen...

    low flight over river....

Well said V173. Henning, you are making an anecdote out of your own assumptions of what I haven't said. thanks for that. I have no delusion that I know much at all. I'm glad to learn from you all. Whomever was flying here yesterday was low enough that they never would've made the bank...

    low flight over river....

Ha! sheesh. I really just opened a point of discussion. I fully expect us all to have different opinions and risk profiles. It struck me as severely "non-conservative" move, and I was curious what everyone thought of it. ... for the sake of discussion I went ahead and put my opinion in...

    low flight over river....

Easy Tiger. You are reading something that I am not writing, I have no argument whatsoever about MOAs. None. I do believe that low flight (150AGL) in a restricted basin with blind corners - at altitudes where you would make two way traffic with no exit - in a piston single.... is bad risk...

    low flight over river....

It is a beautiful stretch of earth, and I'm sure flying at tree top level is exhilarating. I wouldn't worry so much about restrictions as I would rounding a corner at 110 knots - staring down a group of 4 warbirds screaming toward me.

    low flight over river....

watched a 172 fly low over the tennessee river today - about 150-200AGL right down the river. (over water). It climbed, turned 180, and came right back. this area is an active MOA. - not to mention he/she wouldn't clear the tree line if the fan quit. He/She may learn the lesson someday...

viability of GA for work question...

on the other hand... a new, JetA "sipper" plane notwithstanding, you can fly a lot of hours for the $400,000.00 - $600,000.00 price difference. - even with 100LL @ $6.20/gal.

viability of GA for work question...

nope. the goal is to be in a twin (night). 100LL or JetA. & 4 person-family capable when I want it to be.

viability of GA for work question...

Flying the plane aside, window, seal, etc. repairs on pressurized vessels can really pack a punch. In my mind - with my goals, it would be hard to justify anything more than a non-pressurized twin. ... unless someone else was financing the operation. :)

viability of GA for work question...

great info - as I would expect. 1. proficiency, 2. weather, and 3. maintenance down-time. Agreed about the Baron and 310 - upfront cost & speed - #3 above is the only reason I am considering a newer aircraft - maybe a DA42NG or one that has been factory converted to the austro engines.
