    Recommendations for a cheap airplane

It's been more. Last one was $4300. But I'm assured that's just because I switched to a new mechanic, and they had to do research to re-verify AD compliance. Honestly, I'm getting tired of ownership, I think. Add on hangar rent and we're to $7940, and I haven't flown a single hour yet.

    For Sale Balsa Wood

I think you can get approval to fit a 0.35 on there. It'd climb a lot better and you'd probably have a faster cruise. 'course, fuel consumption would go way up. Can you fit a half gallon tank, maybe?

    Recommendations for a cheap airplane

Considering selling the mooney. Would like to keep flying... something... though. What's the lowest cost of ownership airplane that isn't an ultralight or sport plane? I'm thinking a gently used 152, but I'm not familiar with anything other than that and a 172. For me, right now, the biggest...

    How are hangar prices decided?

I wish I could 'like' a post more than once.

    AZ Taco Festival

Fish Taco. You might as well say "Fish Ice Cream". Bleah. Fish doesn't belong anywhere near a taco.

Aha! See... butane stove doesn't look so crazy now, does it.

    Tea Kettle Work?

So... what happens if you put boiling water in a thermos at sea level, and then take it up where the boiling point is lower than the temperature of the water? No, really. I'm curious. Let's say the water was -almost- about to boil. Then you open the thermos and... aren't you looking at a lap...

    The flight from hell...

I once had a group of workstations with host names from the Dukes of Hazzard. Everything worked fine until one day we couldn't get to one. I had a nastygram in my inbox demanding I go see the building sysadmin. I get there and he's all upset about the host 'cooter'. How dare I name a work...

    Garmin Pilot - Safetaxi problem

I just tried to reproduce on my phone. I don't see an option to turn safe taxi on... what I see is an option to turn on Automatic Safe Taxi. Is this what you mean? If so, I'm not sure why it's turning off. You can get to the safe taxi diagram through airport information as well. Tap an airport...

    How are hangar prices decided?

If you have a wait list, and it's any size at all, most of those people would be willing to pay at LEAST $5 more to get a hangar. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd happily sign a contract for a hangar at a higher price, contingent on one becoming available. See if you can get several of...

    Pay for weather briefings?

Meh. Give it another 10 years, and I'll be able to run their models on my graphics card. Then, I'll just need to subscribe to the raw data and I'll make my own forecasts. Big Weather's days are numbered.

    How are hangar prices decided?

Funny you say that. I was told that if I bought an airplane for sale on the field, it'd come with a hangar. (I've owned a plane for years, still haven't gotten The Call.)

    How are hangar prices decided?

I know of one airport where there is zero relationship to supply / demand. KMDQ said the following to me in the same conversation: Me: "Wow, that's quite a waiting list. With that kind of demand, you'll be building more hangars, right" KMDQ: "Oh, no. There's no money it. It would cost way more...

    PIlot Deviation

Aw, c'mon, man... With your new avatar, you gotta look for reasons to quote Top Gun. "I'd like a video... but if you screw up just THIS MUCH, you'll be flying a cargo plane loaded with rubber dog **** outta Hong Kong."

    What I'm drinking tonight.

I lol'd. It's not that we're too stupid to go metric. No. We're so smart that we enjoy the challenge that using an inconsistent measurement system brings. We do it for fun. The rest of the world had to simplify it just to get through the day. We went to the moon on slugs, horsepower, feet...

Economical Runway Lights and Position Thereof

That's interesting. Maybe the LEDs are more directional? Actually, depending on the color of the reflector, it could be that the "white" LED doesn't have enough red light (say, for a red reflector) in it to be reflected back and be obvious. I would think incandescent is more wide band.

Why bother with flaps on takeoff?

When the whole "touch and goes are dangerous" thing came up (and when I was still reading mooneyspace), I realized that you could both land and take off with flaps half, so no configuration change needed on the runway to execute a touch and go. That fact was ignored and the whole "you might...
